Chapter Nine

Graduation Weekend: The Proposition

I woke up to cold sheets where Ray was sleeping this morning but smelling the goodness of waffles and turkey bacon.  Walking out the bedroom to dining area set for two with orange juice in Champagne glasses with flowered strawberries on brim of the glasses.  Ray knows how much I love Cantaloupe slices, Raspberry Activia and home fries for breakfast.  As I my stomach medicine and munch on a crisp slice of Turkey bacon while the servant in still setting up the table, I notice my honey on the balcony in what seemed like deep thought.  I walk out to him, “Goodmorning.”  He looks back at me with a distant smile.  I stood beside him kissing his cheek.

"do you love me?" he blurts.

"Well, goodmorning back at you to.  You already know I do," I was shocked to his question.

"No I don't know, do you?"

"How could you not know? I wouldn't just fly across the world or completely be submissive for just anyone, Ray?"

He gave me a distant look before walking away. It accrued to me, he wasn't asking for all that back talk. I walked out behind him as he looked over to the beautiful scenery from him the screen door in a daze.  I walked up next to him, "Hay You, what's with the long face today?"

"Nothing?" he gazed off.

"So you really going to say nothing?" I guided his face to look at me.

"(sighing) Yo I don't want to leave you," he seemed so sad.

"It's not forever. I have the means to come visit you whenever. "

"You don't get what I'm saying."

"Okay so explain it."

"I can see myself marrying you. You having my kids and stuff like that."

"Well damn, that's some big thinking. You just eighteen."

"Yeah, (grins) I know."

"Yesterday you told me I love you and yesterday you asked if I'd be your girl. And tomorrow you are going back on the road. So with that said I will say this. I'm at the prime of my life and you are just starting, to do you. All I ask is that you be respectful and honest. Don't put me at risk but enjoy yourself. When you’re really ready to commit we will do that."

"So what you don't think I can be loyal to you on the road?"

"I know you like flirting, girls, like most guys your age."

"so what you saying?"

"I'm saying I love you but I don't trust the world."

“But you trust me right?”

“I’m not good at trusting.”

“That’s not what I asked you?”

“*gulp nervously and after a pause* …yes,” I whisper.

He and I went to Conjunction house where he packed for the U.K. The entire day was bitter sweet we were joined at the hip for the most part. We went to his mom's house and chilled there where he did the family thing. Lockdown was over, I was back to grinding and money. Ray's father cranked up the grill early that morning and had burgers, steak and chicken breast on the grill by 11am. Before leaving the hotel I had three bundles of paperwork before me. While I sat in the backyard my IPad and these bundles of paperwork in front of with the blackberry ringing off the hook. I sat on three conference calls back to back. One with my accountant and managers. The other was just my brothers and I to talk about my building schedule which started with a visit to The Breakfast Club radio show, which I was dreading as soon as I arrived in New York. I knew Ray was going to come up in the conversation.
