Chapter Nineteen

The Vacation: Chucky Cheese

“Hello?” I jumped up out my sleep when I heard the phone vibrate.

“Aye baby girl,” I heard the familiar voice.

“Bro?  What’s up?  You okay?”

“Yeah I’m great sorry to wake you up but I just wanted to let you know I am going to Philly right now but I will be back in time for the photo-shoot for Ridez and Ink.”

“Bro you are not going to be able to make it back in time for that.  I know you!  When you go home you always end up dragging your feet boy.  Plus you know I have to go to Georgia for the car show pictures first, ship the car from Georgia and then fly back to LA for the actual photo-shoot?”

“Oh my God girl, you worry to much.  I have all of that handled.  The cars, the shoot and the security.  I have it all in check,” Darren sound so sure of himself but for some reason I just wasn’t happy with him  going back home.

There was truly no need if Kyla was coming to California with the baby.  Darren and her had decided that they were going to move to California from Philly to give the baby the best life they could but Darren’s only regret with leaving was that Darren’s mother, grandmother and remaining family chose to not leave.  Like most in Philly do they make up their minds that Philly is all they want to know.  I think Darren was a bit torn with the idea of being so far from his mother, siblings and grandparents.  I don’t know why but I was pleading for him to know go.  I made it about the schedule but I’m not so sure that it was the schedule at all.  When he hung up I fell back to sleep cuddled up under Ray who didn’t budge even though I had gotten up from the bed and sat in the living room talking to Darren.  Before closing my eyes I looked at the clock and it was 7:16 in the morning.  The sound of Darren saying, “I schedule you are a vacation and you still won’t enjoy yourself,” in my head.

12:07pm

I woke up to the smell of turkey bacon and eggs.  I roll over and Ray wasn’t there.  I sat up and eventually slide off the bed to go to the bathroom.  After brushing my teeth I jump in the shower trying to think of what to wear.

When I come out of the shower, Ray is sitting in the bedroom fumbling around on his phone when his mother called saying that she was ready and everyone was at the house.  “Ard I’m just waiting for Keleka to get ready,” he rolled his eyes and shaking his head like I always hold him up.  I spray my skin with Bath & Body and rub deodorant into my pits.  He walks up behind me smacking my left cheeks watching it shack in my boy cut short.  If he was going to be back there then he might as well make himself useful and rub my back down with lotion.  I took no time at all resorting to something comfortable like tight and a tee with a jean vest.  My brand new Labron 9 Elite “Miami Vice” at arm’s reach.  I admired Ray in a simple pair of Jordan shorts and white Tee and Jordan’s to match.

We met at Chuckie Cheese.  Tiphanie-Jewel, Kareemah, and Salina (my God children’s mothers) were the first faces I saw standing outside talking to Mama Keyshia and Tiffany with a slew of children awaiting anxiously.  We waste no time.  I have my God son Jason barely walking holding my left hand and baby Taylor in my right on my chest.  I was so happy for Kyla who was glowing in the California sunlight behind her Gucci glasses.  We walk inside of Chuckie Cheese ordering pizza and setting the kids up with tokens.  The kids ran wild to exhaustion.  My sorors and I (aka Lady of Pearl models) along with Mindless Behavior posed with staff of Chuckie Cheese to put on their wall of fame.  Shout out to Chuckie Cheese for letting us shut it down for a private kid’s party.  I have to love Mama Keyshia for again posting a picture of us on Instagram inscribed “Like Mama Like KE”.  I swore being in my Ex’s family was the best thing since sliced bread but Mama Keyshia is truly the best mother-in-law to walk the earth, no disrespect to the mother’s before her but she is super trill.

Straight from Chuckie Cheese Nate, Devil, myself and the girls flew from LA to Georgia.  As promised everything was handled.  Formerly Toya, Lil Wayne’s ex-wife now, Toya Williams is a personal friend of mine and also styles us for events when we are home in Atlanta.  As Darren said everything was handled and she met us ready for work at my house along with makeup and hair artists.  We literally had about two hours before the car show started with not as much as time to spare should we hit traffic.  Rush! Rush! Rush!  While we are being made over Toya and I caught up.  "Oh My GOD T! Is that what I think that is? Are you engaged and you didn't even tell me?" she said in excitement before pausing to ask who put a ring on my finger. Most don't know that I was even dating anyone. Without me saying she put two and two together and with a questionable look on her face she asked if it was Ray.

"Yeah?" I rubbed my forehead in stress.

"For a girl that is engaged you don't seem to be so excited. What's up?"

"Girl! He so damn young."

"hmm by the size of the ring he is not playing no games."

"See that's the thing Toya, he's not. He got a playful spirit but an old soul. He demands things like a man. Some time I have conversations with him that even men twice his age don't talk about."

"Does he treat you good?"

"That's another thing, he treats me sooo good?  Better than any old head twice his age.  He demands that I don't pay for anything when with him.  He cleans, takes out trash!  He's great with my God children?  We just coming from Chuckie Cheese with all our family and all the kids.  He opens doors and pulls out chairs. No wait, and pays attention to details! Tiphanie Jewel and I saw this ring in New York after teaming up with Tiphanie Jewel he got the ring just because I like it."

"Woooow? For real? Girl he sound like a winner. I just got finished reading your book. Girl you need that in your life. It ain't like he's not legal. He's eighteen, and you know this business ages you. Plus you ain't getting no younger. Why not? It's time to get some babies in there before you can't have any."

"Ugh I'm scared girl."

"You better do what you got to do because you know these fast ass little girls will jump right in where there is room. But how is his family taking it?"

"So far no complaints.  His mom speaks well of me and my mom only sees room for error in the age thing. Other than that she and my family approved the engagement. Not that they can actually stop me you know," I palm my head, "They just get on my nerves! I love but there has always got to be space you know?"

Toya totally understands my reservations with family mainly because her family drama was public on her reality show. We could always relate and talk openly beyond Hollywood because she is so real and I consider myself to be as well.  On our way to the car show I wondered if Darren was on his way to LA yet.  The last anyone heard of him what leaving Chuckie Cheese he texted Nate saying that he was leaving his grandparent’s house for the airport.  The photography for Ridez Magazine kept himself busy taking pictures until we got there.  A reporter of the magazine interviewed as we signed autographs and took pictures with fans.  Following behind Nate kept us on a tight schedule whisking us back to LA for the eleven o’clock flight out.  I can’t explain the feeling of travel in tight times like this.  It was eleven in Atlanta but it was only eight in California.

I called Darren as soon as we landed in LA but I got no answer.  Ray and I went to dinner only to go home afterwards.  I watched him watch Madden.  I was so excited about the photo-shoots that I was antsy.  The theme for the Ink Magazine photo-shoot collaborated well from the Ridez Magazine photoshoot.  Both magazines had rescheduled several times before actually settling on a time that worked well for us and them.  Ridez Magazine wanted an urban photo-shoot so we took the photo-shoot to the hood in Ray’s stooping ground.  For Ink Magazine the techs are building a pole dancing stage right in the middle of the block where we are shooting the Ridez photo-shoot.  I was more so excited for the Ridez photo-shoot because it’s a family affair.  My cousins/models Alyssa and Lauren were modeling with their brand new dirty bikes and cars.  My God children will all be there but Trinity (my oldest God child) was posing with her mini dirty bike as well as my God son, Christian is making his debut posing with his hot wheels car tricked out with the rims.

My sorors of course were in on the fun being members of Lady of Pearl.  I love events were we can have fun together.  Even though I was at the start of a vacation this was clearly fun work that I didn’t mind doing since I had my family with me.
