The construction on the Herondale Manor had finally been finished that summer, and now began the babyproofing. Jace grumbled at all the cracks, mumbling under his breath that it would be so much easier to just give the entire house an iratze.
"Claaary." Jace whined. "Can't you create a rune that works on houses?" Clary gave him a sideways look, annoyed.
"No, Jace, I can't. You moan as much as the baby cries." Lucky for them though, Livvy was currently sleeping.
But not for long.
Of course not, Livvy was a baby and how often do babies sleep when you need them to? 2% of the time.
Clary was in the kitchen when the wailing started upstairs. "Jace! Livvy has woken up! You're upstairs! Can you please do something?"
"I'm on the toilet!" Jace called back down. "She probably wants feeding, anyway!"
Grumbling, Clary set an alarm for the oven and went upstairs. Livvy was still crying when Clary picked up the little girl.
"Yes, darling. Mommy's here now. Do you want some milk, sweetheart? Or just a nice cuddle?"
Livvy let out a sob. Clary groaned. "Okay, my love. I'll feed you."
Jace wandered into the nursery, his golden curls still wet from his shower. Looking at him then, Clary knew he was still the boy she had always loved. This would pass, it was just a matter of getting used to parenting.
Jace raised an eyebrow at the sight. It was normal of course, but still, he found it funny to see a little baby latched on to Clary's breast.
"By the Angel Jace! You're going to have to get used to it unless you want to feed her!"
"I wasn't..." Jace stammered.
"Sorry. This is tiring, is all. She's not exactly gentle."
"I am." Jace grinned.
"If I wasn't holding Livvy, I'd smack you!"
"Oh, I know." Jace kissed Clary's cheek. "That's the oven. I'll go get whatever you made out."
"Thank you." Clary sighed. "I love you."
But Jace was already hopping down the stairs and he didn't hear her.
