another waking from my phone calling added to my list. i groan as i roll over to grab my phone off my bedside table. as i grab it i look at my alarm clock to see 6:34 am written in red block letters across it. i focus back on my phone to see melissa's caller id. i quickly hit the bright green button at the bottom of my phone screen and hold it up to my ear.

"melissa? what's wrong? what's happening?" i say still half asleep.

"john! they found her!" she screams through the phone. i immediately leap out of bed running over to my closet to find some warm clothes to chuck over my body.

"well, where was she!" i shout back, putting my phone on speaker while i quickly chuck on some random clothes that consist of some back jeans and an orange hoodie.

"john," she says quietly. "she was at your spot." how dumb of me. the one place i didn't check and it's the most obvious.

"how dumb of me," i mumble. " where is she now?" i still continue shaking my head on how dumb i am.

"that's why i'm calling you." she whispers through the phone. i stop in the middle of my room. "she's been rushed to the hospital."

"melissa!" i shout through the phone. "why aren't you there!" i pace through my room trying to find my shoes until i realise they are at the front door.

"exactly! come with me! hurry up and get ready, i'll be at your house in 5." she hangs up the phone leaving me standing in my room. i run down the stairs with a pair of socks in my hand, once i was down the stairs, i slip onto the floor putting my socks on to my feet and then quickly slip my shoes on over top.

i quickly get up off the floor, i slowly turn the knob of the door trying to not wake anyone up but already probably have because of my screaming on the phone. i steadily shut the door behind me and run through the path that leads to the ziegler's house.

with good timing as soon as i reach there house both melissa and maddie come out of their front door. following melissa's signals, i jump into there backseat of there car and before we know it we are at the hospital.

before melissa even stops the car, i jump out of the back seat causing me to stumbling across the concrete floor. i run through the sliding doors of the hospital and run to the front desk.

"mackenzie ziegler, she was admitted about 30 minutes ago, what room?" i frantically yell to the lovely woman sitting at the front desk.

"relation?" she types away at the hospital's computer.

"i'm her boyfriend and best friend! i'm practically family! just let me see her!" the office lady looks over the top of her glasses to look at me. melissa and maddie come up behind me, melissa rubbing my back.

"mother and sister?" the reception lady says to melissa and maddie. they both swiftly nod their heads. "room 523." i sprint over to the elevator rapidly hitting the button. i tap my foot against the floor. the door finally slides open, i slide in hitting the button that says '5th floor'. melissa and maddie also just make it into the elevator before the doors shut.

a ding rings in my ears, signalling that the door is about to open. as soon as the door opens enough for me to slip through the crack. i run down the hallway looking for a room that has 523 written across the door. i finally find it to look through the glass to see kenzie laying on the bed with pipes connected to her. her leg is raised.

i open up the door to get a closer look and there she is, my girlfriend laying still on a hospital bed. pale, her lips are no longer the perfect pink. her hair is splayed out across the pillow. lifeless.

that's when i fall to the ground, tears spilling from my eyes non-stop. melissa comes up behind me rubbing my back trying to calm me down.

"this is all my fault," i mumble through all my tears that continued to fall down my face.
