"hey, beautiful." johnny quietly says, holding a beautiful bouquet of flowers in his hands along with a caramel frappuccino with no cream. i know i'm fussy ;)
"thank you," i say, gratefully. "but aren't you going to be late for school? it's 8:40 am." i say concerningly, taking the drink and flowers out of his hands.
"study period." he shrugs and sits at the side of my bed next to me. "how are you feeling today?" he asks, picking up my hand and kissing it. my cheeks start to flare up at his actions.
"eh," my shoulders move upwards and then back down into their natural position. "been better i suppose." my lips slightly curve upwards and then back down. johnny takes his phone out of his pocket and his eyes widen at the sight.
"what?"
"i'm going to be late," he looks up at me. "i love you and i will come back after school and we can try to do something fun." he kisses my lips gently before leaving me in my room, alone.
i sigh as my room goes silent, leaving me with the sun shining through my window and the sound of the front door shutting. i decide to grab my phone and post a photo on instagram.

"hey, guys." i rock up to our circle in front of the lockers. everyone spits out a 'hey' or a 'hi'.
"how's kenz?" brynn pops up, turning the silence into a small conversation.
"she's better, i was just with her." i smile, everyone returns with an 'aww' or a 'cute'. everyone's actions make me blush. "i was just thinking on the way to school. we should throw her a surprise party." i pop up again.
"what for?" hayden says, confusingly.
"her birthday, dumbass." lauren rolls her eyes as he makes a 'o' shape with his mouth. "that's a good idea, john." she says calmly after her sassy remark.
"i'm in." carson nods his head, everyone following his actions.
"well, when i go back to her house after school i will ask melissa about it and then i will get back to all of you." i smile at my achievement of getting everyone onboard with the plan. the bell rings before anyone else could say anything.
"see everyone at lunch." annie blows a kiss before strutting off down the hall.

i put my car into park before grabbing my backpack off the passenger seat and swinging it onto my back. i quickly rush into my own house, telling my mum that im heading over to kenzie's. i chuck my bag at the foot stairs and hang my car keys up on the rack. i yell a 'bye', making it echo through our house before running back out the door.
i stumble through the overgrown pathway coming out to the ziegler's front door. i use my knuckles to give a small knock to the door. footsteps could be heard on the other side and then the door swings open to reveal melissa's face.
"oh, hey john." she greets me cheerfully. "here to see kenz?" she questions me.
"actually can i talk to you for a second before i head upstairs?" i ask her. she nods, stepping out the front door, shutting it behind her. "i had an idea on the way to school today to throw a surprise party for kenzie since her birthday is next week." my fingers make my way to my mouth chewing on my nails. i do this when i'm nervous.
"that sounds great," melissa generally says. "when were you planning on having it?"
"well, i was thinking saturday? we can get maddie to take her out for breakfast while the whole gang sets up," i pause, taking a breath. "and then we text mads telling her that she can bring her back and then surprise!" i tell her the whole plan.
"amazing." melissa smiles.

i slowly turn the handle to kenzie's room to see her peacefully asleep. i smile as i watch her actually sleep for the first time in days. i make sure to quietly shut the door behind me before tiptoeing over to her window to shut her curtains, making the room dark. her body shifts, making me extra careful about my actions.
i slip my shoes off at the side of her bed, sliding in under the covers. i shift closely to kenzie, wrapping my arms around her delicate body. she shifts once more snuggling closer into my body. i softly kiss the top of her head, giving me a big whiff of her freshly cleaned hair, smelling like strawberries making me drift off into a light sleep.
