7➢ coming home & visits

"john! you're finally home!" my mum looks surprised as i walk through the front door of my home. i chuck my bag of dirty clothes on to the floor as i tiredly look at her.

"i'm only back for like 30 minutes, calm down." i stand there with my shoulders down, my knees about to fall, my eyes closed by the minute. "she's getting dismissed today, so melissa finally convinced me to come home and shower before i go back." i sigh. the things you do for love.

"good on you son," my mum smiles as i look at her weirdly. "you've found a keeper." she winks before she goes back to folding the washing. i scoff and sluggishly walk up the stairs. i smile at the sight of my own room and walk over to flop on my bed.

i stay like that for around 5 minutes before i decide i better take a quick shower to get back to the hospital on time. i walk into my closet grabbing a clean pair of clothes, chucking them on the bathroom floor and shutting the door behind me.

i strip before entering the hot shower, letting the scolding hot water drown my skin. i wash my hair and my body before exiting the shower and drying myself off with a clean towel and placing the clean pair of clothes i picked out on my body.

i walk out of my room, making sure to put my dirty clothes in my hamper. i walk over to my dresser and spray kenzie's favourite cologne all over my body. i grab my phone once again and heading out the door once more. once i reach the end of the stairs, i slip my vans on my feet again before i head back out the door. i call out to mum saying i'm leaving before exiting.

i push open the hospital doors into kenzie's room. i smile at both of them when their eyes fix on my existence. "hey gorgeous." i give her a kiss on the cheek. "morning melissa." i smile at her, she gives me a nod and a "morning" as a reply. "ready to get out of this place?" i question both melissa and kenzie. 

"i'm sick of this place and i've only been awake for 24 hours." kenzie groans as i laugh.

"imagine being here for 8 days, watching your girlfriend sleep in front of you lifeless." kenzie rolls her eyes. "it's true." i shrug as i take a seat in the chair next to her. 

"thank you." she turns her head and gives me a soft smile. i shrug, but not any shrug, the "i don't mind" shrug. "seriously john. you didn't have to do that." she breathes, grabbing my hand.

"well, guess what?" her eyebrows scrunch together. "i did." i smile, along with a small chuckle.

"you're stupid." she shakes her head.

before i could say anything, kenzie's doctor walks in with his clipboard, filled with her information. "ready to get out of here, miss ziegler?" he questions her as he stands at the end of her bed.

"more than ever," she says excitedly. we all give a slight chuckle before he continues.

"okay, well your kind mother here should have some clothes for you and then you can sign some papers, give you a nice set of crutches since your leg has not fully healed and then go home." he finishes, before smiling at all of us. "good job, mackenzie. you survived a coma." he smiles before exiting the room.

"let's get me out of this shit hole."

"mackenzie, language."  she gives her mum a cheeky grin.

"i'm free!" kenzie yells as she exits the hospital doors.

"come on, let's get you in the car." i laugh as i shake my head.  i rest my hands on her waist as i host her up into the car, also placing the crutches on the floor of the car. i slide into the backseat with her, buckling my seatbelt up.

"can we watch a movie when we get back?" she gives me puppy eyes and a sad expression on her face.

"fine." i chuckle.
