Lifting The Veal (Star Darlings Fanfiction)

Chapter 4

It was nighttime. At least on Starland. Vega lid on her back on her bed with a crossword puzzle over her. She fiddled around with the descriptions so everything lined up better. Starlings are naturally intelligent alien species, but Vega was something else. She was still a starling though. Nobody else on Starland would've been able to do this crossword but her, though she knew Cassie wouldn't have a problem giving it a try. She sat up in her bed and looked across her room to her roommate's side. Piper, her roommate, was sitting at her desk with her back to her. 

Vega then overheard a strange sound coming from one of the other rooms upstairs. Drumming? Probably Scarlet then. She got up out of her bed and put the crossword on her desk. The sound of the book hitting the table made Piper turn her head. Vega looked back at her and they smiled at each other. Piper then got up from her desk and walked towards Vega and handed her a beaded bracelet. 

The string used to keep it together was black. The beads themselves were pearl shaped in a pattern of between white and blue. On opposite sides of the circle were two bigger beads, both in the shape of a star hanging from a separate piece of string.  "A good luck charm?" Vega asked, holding it in her hand wondering if it was okay for her to accept it. It was clearly handmade and the way it sparkled made Vega suspect there was some genuine Piper magic infused in it.

Piper grinned and nodded, "To help with future anxiety."

She turned back around and went back to her desk, seemingly to make another bracelet for somebody else. Vega crammed her hand awkwardly through the string until the bracelet was on all the way and she instantly smiled seeing it on her wrist. She looked back to Piper and grinned, but Piper didn't see. Vega walked out with the intentions of going to Scarlet's room to tell her to keep the drumming down because it was nighttime, but when went to Scarlet's door she realized the source of the sound was from somewhere else. 

She stayed quiet, listening for the noise to happen again. She only had to wait a few starminutes until "THUMP THUMP THUMP" 

Oh! It was from upstairs! Vega felt herself start to sparkle with determination as she trotted from in front of Scarlet's door to the stairs. As quick and quiet as possible, Vega made her way down the dormitory third story hallway. She listened closely again and finally squared in on the source. Room 333. Libby and Gemma's room. 

Vega knocked on the door to announce she was coming in then used her wish energy to open the door. "Girls, can you please be-" 

Vega stopped dead in her tracks as she walked in. The smell of the room alone was enough to turn her stomach, but the sight of the place added to it made her genuinely sick. Huge portions of the rug were torn apart. Wet spots were all over the room which because of the smell, Vega was able to determine was pee. It seemed like Libby and Gemma had placed out multiple sheets on the ground to try and cover up the fact that some animal literally took a dump in the corner of their room and there in the middle, obviously visible behind Gemma and Libby's legs was a strange, dog-sized, black animal that upon seeing Vega, bulged out it's eyes and moaned at her. 

Vega immediately turned around and left, quickly closing the door behind her. She waited a few seconds to try and collect what she just walked in on. She looked down to the bracelet Piper gave her and whispered with a hiss, "You better be legit." Vega turned back around and entered the room again. Gemma and Libby both appeared like two deer in headlights, awkwardly standing in front of the monster as if they were hiding it. 

"...So who's your new friend?" Vega asked as calmly as possible. 

"Hm? What?" Libby asked, looking around for the "new friend" Vega mentioned. Gemma looked around as well, "Huh? Nope uh just us here." 

Vega crossed her arms, "Yeah? It's just you two?" 

"Yep." Libby lied. 

"Okay, why is there big bights taken out of the carpet?" Vega asked in monotone. 

"N-New diet." Gemma answered. Libby quickly nodded her head, "Yeah, it helps you lose weight in your-" "In your arms!" Gemma tried to back Libby up. "Yeah!" 

"Yeah? Okay, why is there pee everywhere?" Vega asked another question. 

"The diet really makes you pee," Gemma blurted out, now having to move awkwardly to the side as the strange monster hiding between Libby and Gemma started to walk. "Yeah, it's part of the diet you just pee all the weight off." Libby awkwardly tried to also stay in front of the monster. 

"Uh, okay, maybe you guys are getting UTI's from the diet because no Starling should be peeing at this volume," Vega kept examining the situation, "probably has something to do with the fact that carpet is inedible by Starlings. Does your diet explain why is there an actual shit in the corner of your room?" 

Libby and Gemma looked at each other, their faces red as they tried to think of a way to get around this one. Libby couldn't take it much longer and immediately blurted everything out, "Gemma mothered a little baby Wishling animal called a cow and she was going to be killed really young so they could have this really awful sounding food called veal where they literally eat baby cows! Her name is Princess Pangea Moon and she's can jump over the moon and she's a precious baby and we love her so much Vega, please don't tell Lady Stella!" 

"No, her name is just Pangea and she's just a cow," Gemma corrected. 

"She has an earring, she's a princess," Libby retorted,"Besides, you don't know her like I do, I and she got tight. Ain't that right Princess Moon? Besides, why can't a cow be a princess?" 

"Okay Libby, we're going to get back to this because there is so much wrong with what you just said. But right now I kind of need to ask you guys... WHAT THE STARF DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING?!"
