In his defense, Sirius didn't realize that Gilderoy was this pretentious.

The exterior of the Lockhart residence was painted with a crisp coating of off-white. Tall pillars and a variety of potted plants decorated the front porch. Even from outside the house, Sirius could see dozens of pictures of who he assumed to be Gilderoy covering the walls of the living room.

Sarah seemed hesitant to knock on the front door, but she didn't have to, as Gilderoy opened it before her knuckles even touched the wood.

"Sarah!" Lockhart called, wrapping her in a bone-crushing hug. "What's got my older sister all the way out here?"

Sirius watched as Sarah sighed at her younger brother, forcing a smile, an action he had repeated many, many times growing up. She pulled free from his embrace and took a step back. It was then that Lockhart noticed Sirius, who stood with his hands in the pockets of his torn-up leather jacket, which had suffered a few injuries of its own as a result of the crash.

"Sirius Black," he said, a wondrous look on his face, "I remember you! You went to Hogwarts while I was still a first year. You were always playing pranks with those three boys, were you not?"

Sirius nodded, a knowing smirk on his face. "I was."

He looked down to Sarah, who seemed disturbed by both her brother and Sirius.

"Why don't you two come in?" Lockhart grinned, holding open the door for the pair.

When the two made their way inside, Sirius was greeted by the familiar aroma of fresh laundry and scented candles. As he saw from outside, the walls of the home were indeed covered in photos of Gilderoy. Other than the tacky furniture and horrible granite countertops, it seemed like a decent place to live. Gilderoy led them to a wooden table placed in the middle of his large, drafty kitchen, where he offered Sirius and Sarah tea.

"I'm good, thanks," Sarah spoke, seemingly on edge. Sirius shook his head, crossing his arms as he took a seat.

"Now, Sarah," Gilderoy began, "what are you two doing here?"

"Well," she sighed, straightening up in her seat, "I have a few questions for you."

Gilderoy furrowed his eyebrows. "About?"

"You know how I work at that bakery on Main Street?"

"Ah, yes." Gilderoy nodded his head in realization. "What was it, Sweet Muffins?"

"Sure," Sarah said flatly. "My boss, Francesca Knight, have you ever heard of her?"

Gilderoy took a second to think, placing his hand on his chin. After a moment, his face lit up with recognition. "That name does sound familiar, yes," he said, looking at Sirius. "Weren't you two seeing each other for a couple of years?"
