Daniel Stone:
I look at the sky, looking forward to seeing the dead tributes. The zombies were certainly an interesting twist, but an uncreative one. They couldn't have thought of something more exciting? Something more memorable? With a quick glance around the graveyard, I confirmed that I was alone. I had decided to hide out in the corner of the graveyard tonight, instead of sleeping in front of my grave. It was too obvious, and being obvious had never really been my thing.
The first face in the sky was that of Spencer Dean, the laid-back guy from District 7. I knew he would die, they all would. The only people who might be remotely threatening were the Careers and Adelaide. But of course, they were all girls and I would beat them easily.I glanced around the upright slabs of stone, looking for Adelaide. She knew I was here, and our daily battles were becoming a bit annoying.
The next face in the sky was Violet Crest, feisty girl from 9. Ah well, District 9 were not meant to be contenders anyway. They should just eliminate all the outlying Districts; there was never any competition there. Violet just happened to get with the Careers, and get a good score in training. Otherwise she would have died on the first day.
The third face in the sky was that of Declan Amority. I think he was District 10... He never stood a chance, falling in love and being a naturally sweet and caring guy. To win the Hunger Games, you had to enjoy the Hunger Games. Or be extremely lucky.
The fourth and final face in the sky was Claudia Zimmer, the girl who knew which end of a sword was which from District 11. Pity she had died so quickly, I would've enjoyed torturing her. Who was left for me to torture?
I would've loved to torture Kat, but she was too deadly to kill slowly. Nutmeg, but she was a sneaky girl and had the slightest chance of escaping. Hazel was too cunning for her own good, and all the girls were skilled fighters. It would be better to kill the Careers quickly and get it over with, so as not to risk my own life. Then there was Adelaide. Oh, I would have so much fun torturing her. But that would be tricky, because I would have to catch her first. She was wickedly fast and skilled with her chosen weapons, so it would be best to kill her quickly. And the last three tributes were Amy, Jude and E-Beth. All easy kills, and all pretty unskilled in combat. I would torture those three. With the comforting thought of torture in mind, I dug a deep hole in front of my grave and buried my backpack and other belongings in there, after first making sure the backpack was completely sealed and none of my supplies would be ruined. The only things I brought with me were my sword and two axes, my sword in my belt and an axe in each hand. I was in the mood for murder, preferably torture but that would depend on who I ran in to.
I eventually arrived in the meadow, and looked around at the flowers They were a flaming red and orange colour, one of my favourites so far. They had started off red, a colour that looked exactly like the blood that was spilled that day. The next ones were a smoky greyish-white colour, like the fog had been. The third lot of petals had been a deep violet, which was the same colours as the snakes, and their venom. The petals after those had been a sickly yellow, just like the dead tributes' eyes. Before I had a chance to ponder torturing innocent teenagers and changing flower petals any further, a loud gong sounded throughout the arena. Not a cannon that would've symbolised a dead tribute, no, this was a sound of a feast announcement. Or a twist.
"You are the final eight, congratulations to those who have made it this far! RIP to those who haven't. But now let's see who can survive oblivion." Draco Thorne's ominous voice announced. It was barely a second after he finished speaking when the first bomb fell. I wondered if the Districts were rebelling? But then I recalled Draco's words, and realised that this had been his plan all along.
I began sprinting randomly around, trying to avoid the falling bombs. They fell in no particular pattern, but they never hit the same place twice. I glanced frantically around, looking for a safe place. That was when I noticed the graveyard; no bombs were falling there! I desperately sprinted towards the graveyard, my eyes turned to the sky. I heard running footsteps and turned my head to see the Careers a few metres behind me. I began zigzagging so none of the girls with projectile weapons could kill me. I heard a shriek of pain in the distance, and a cannon sounded. I wondered who had died, and how. My thoughts were distracted by a slicing pain on my right arm, and I instantly grabbed my upper arm with my hand. From the evil cackle behind me, I knew it was Kat's whip that had cut me.
