Toby POV
I turned and ran, up the stairs and into the hallway. I slowed down and looked through the first rooms before I heard something from the one farthest from the stairs.
I opened the door slowly and saw an open door, on the other side of the room. I ran there and saw stairs. Stairs leading down to the forest bellow. I cursed and ran out after them, I didn't get far before I found them. They were hiding behind a big rock. I raised my hatchet and took a step towards them, their eyes wide in terror.
The car crash. Lyra covered in blood behind the steering wheel.
I tried to shake the memories.
You've done the same thing to them, how do you think they will feel when they find out you killed their parents?
How could you do that?
You are just like your father, hurting others just because you feel like it.
I heard sirens, they had called the police. I looked at them silently and ran back to warn the others, I couldn't hurt them.
"Get out of here, people are coming!" I yelled at them and they ran out too the backyard where I waited. We hurried to set the house on fire to hide the evidence.
Then we ran, as fast as we could through the trees until we could no longer hear any sounds from the world around us.
"What are we going to do now?" I asked and looked around at the other two.
Masky POV
"What are we going to do now?" Toby asked and looked at me, I suddenly got so mad, how could he act like nothing was wrong? Like he hadn't just ruined the whole mission? Like he hadn't ruined every singel important thing since he came here?
"Well, thanks too you, we couldn't even finish a simple mission so now we have to walk home. Why do you always mess something up? You couldn't even stop two children from calling the police. We can't do anything when you're here, why don't you just go away? You should have never came here, then we wouldn't have to bother." I regretted it as soon as I said it and saw Toby, his face was empty of all emotions as he turned and walked away.
"No, Toby, wait!" I called after him. "I didn't mean it, please Toby, come back!"
I felt Hoodies hand on my arm.
"Just leave him alone for now." He said calmly. "Lets go and find a cabin or somewhere to spend the night."
There are lots of abandoned cabins and houses all around the forest where we could sleep or rest if needed and there are always something around.
We found an old brown cabin with nothing more than dust inside not to far away. We went in and put all our stuff on the floor. It was almost dark and I was worried, but decided to try to sleep and let him be for a while longer. Maybe I was just too ashamed of what I'd said and didn't want to see him, I didn't know.
I woke up suddenly and looked around, Hoodie was sleeping beside me, muttering in his sleep. It was now completely dark outside and Toby still hadn't returned. I got up and decided to go look for him, it was my fault after all and I wouldn't be able to sleep more anyway.
I opened and closed the door as silently as I could and went outside. Into the chilly night air. And started to look for Toby. I wandered aimlessly for about forty minutes before I heard something, just a small sound, like someone was hiding and prepared to jump out and tackle someone, I mean, I should know, right?
Just as I finished the thought something fell from a branch and knocked me to the ground. It quickly grabbed my hands and turned me around so that I lay on my back. I struggled to get up but to no use, then I saw his face and calmed down a bit.
"Jack!? What are you doing?" I asked, seeing the blue mask and the nonexistent eyes.
"Oh, you're Masky, eh, hey, eh, sorry for that, what are you doing here?" He said and crouched down beside me. I sat up and looked at him it wasn't unusual for people to disappear or get killed in this part of the forest even if it was pretty far from the mansion. Now I'm pretty sure I know why.
"I'm looking for Toby." I said. "He should be somewhere around here."
"Well, okay then, I'll leave you to that." He said and climbed back up into the trees. I continued to look for Toby, stumbling around in the dark forest for maybe half-an-hour. More then ones I wished that I had Jack's night vision or whatever it was that made him able to see in the dark even without eyes.
I looked up at the trees above me, their thick branches and leaves shutting out the light from the almost full moon.
Suddenly my foot got caught in something and I fell, I stood up and brushed away dirt and dead leaves. I turned around and saw that it wasn't a root as I'd first thought, it was a foot, belonging to a small figure curled up against a tree.
Hope you liked it, this chapter made me so sad to write, poor Toby :'(
