A cool grey comes into view.

"It worked!"

Sitting up I turn my body and dangle my legs over the edge of whatever I was laying on, trying to find the owner of the voice. A little old man sitting next to me looks down at me with shimmering blue eyes. Under the gorgeous hue there are very prominent bags, and unruly hair on his head. He looks as if he hasn't slept for days.

"Hello!"

He looks at me with eyes full from excitement and pure happiness, as if he has been waiting for this moment forever.

"I am Professor A. and your name is Violet."

Violet, huh I wonder what the meaning behind that is?

"Can you say Violet?"

"Violet" I say my voice coming out staticky.

"One second, I can fix that." I watch as the professor opens a hatch on my neck and begins to tinker with something inside.

"Try saying your name again." He says

"Violet"

"Perfect!" The professor exclaims. "Just a screw loose in your voice box, no biggy."

I stare at him confused but decide not to ask about this supposed 'voice box'.

"Why Violet?" The professor looks up at me.

"What?"

"Why do you call me Violet?"

"Oh! Your eyes." He runs over, or in his case waddles, over to what looks to be his work desk and pulls out a mirror. I watch him waddle back and bring the mirror up to my face. I take in my appearance, my pale porcelain type skin shines when the light hits it, tiny freckles adorn my cheeks blending almost perfectly with the rest of my face. I run my fingers threw my hair. It is long and dyed a pure white and reaches the small of my back, but the feature I found the most enchanting was my eyes. They are a very fetching color which I'm guessing is called 'violet'. I couldn't look away.

"I love Violets, and I thought the color would be perfect. What do you think?" I turn to him and nod my head.

"It's a beautiful color, thank you." He smiles delighted with my answer.

"What is Violets?" I ask with a soft smile. As if on cue he grabs my hand brings me to a door.

"I'll show you!" The professor opens the door and a bright light shines through. I see millions of beautiful colors dotted on a green canvas. I watch the professor pick something up and place it in my hand.

"This is a Violet."

"It's beautiful" I breathe out staring awestruck at the object.

I see many more of these and pick up a big red one.

"Is this a Violet too?" The professor laughs and looks up at me.

"No that's a rose, not all flowers are violets."

The rose definitely looked a lot different from the Violet. Maybe it's the colors that name the 'flower'. I pick another red 'flower'.

"Is this a rose as well?" I say hopeful of getting it right.

"Sorry Violet, but that's a poppy."

"If it's not color, what makes them different?"

"There characteristics or variations."

I tilt my head confused.

"Allow me to explain." He walks over to 2 new flowers and plucks them from the ground. "This is a Zinnia." He shows me a yellow flower. "Zinnias come in a couple different colors, like pink and red, but what doesn't change is the way they look. For example the petal shapes stay the same, and this flower right here is called a Amaryllis. It comes in different colors too but the petals shape is still the same." He hands me the Amaryllis and points to the petals. "Do you see how different the petals look from each other?" I nod, they did look very different.

"So the flowers are different because the 'petals' are different?" I say, the professor grins.

"To put it simply, yes!"

"I want to know all the flowers names." I say with a small gleam in my eye. The professor smiles softly.

"Well then let's get started."
