"Hey do you know Barry Keller?"
It was bitter cold and I was asking this question from almost every person I confronted, when finally someone paid heed to me. Ugh.
"Yeah, I know him. He's my fuckin' son" He barked, sarcastically.
"What?" I replied, abrasively.
"Oh Nothing, you seem to lack sarcasm baby, huh! And I am Barry, nice to hear a girl calling for me." He chuckled.
Whaaaaaaat!!?? I? Do I really lack one? And please don't baby me!!! Huh.
"My friend asked you for a shirt". I replied, seriously hurt.
"Oh so it was you who needed it? Why didn't you straight yourself to me instead of sending that little lovely chick!?"
"For some obvious reasons. Anyway I am in hurry, so it would be nice if you give it as soon as possible. Please." I was vexed already and wasn't enjoying any of his question series, to be very honest. He seemed to be irritating.
"Arey, they are in class. Let's go there."
We headed to the D-section and didn't share a single word all that while. Why? Cause we were strangers bro !
"So here are the shirts, choose for yourself."
"I'll take this scarlett one. It's attractive, isn't it?" My eyes brightened and I felt content.
"Even I love this."
Aww.
I gave away my prettiest smile; and then ran to the washroom to change.
Programme would start soon.
Everything was flawless. I thought of rehearsing my script once more. While doing so, a now familiar voice cut my concentration and I turned back to look for the owner of that soothing sound. Ah it was Barry, passing away a wide grin. He looks hot.
"Nice fit" He compliments.
I couldn't help but blush. Girls enjoy compliments and I was certainly no exception."So which programme are you in?" I asked as only the participants were allowed in and other students were given off for the day because our school ground couldn't afford a mixture of parents and those five thousand students. Non participants have to compromise by considering that final run through as the main function. Period.
"None. I just came to check out the fairies, you see." He says suppressing his laughter. From fairies he didn't mean those literal "fairies", but all the girls who had came that day. Oh, damn!
"So I've heard right? You're such a flirt."
"No offense."
We laughed.
"Speeeeeeeakers. Please gather on the stage." An ear piercing sound announced, disturbing the momentum of talk we were indulging in.
"Oh I got to go. See ya soon."
"All the best" He winked.

My speech was done and I was now free to roam anywhere. I thought of looking for Barry as Aimee was not there. Drew had dengue and hence couldn't make it that day. And all my other friends were busy showing off their expensive gadgets, camera for example. But then, I preferred exploring out the dark beauty around. In the midst of my way, I could find a dozen of couples high on romance. Why? Because it was evening and the probability of them getting caught is a way too less. Watching them gave a sudden hangover to me. I turned nostalgic, recalling all those happy times I once spent with Kush, my ex boyfriend and the day he ditched me for no appropriate reason. Oh god, why? I didn't want any spoilers for the day.
Just when those clouds of memories were at the verge to burst and would have escaped down my cheeks in no time; he popped up with few candies in hand and honestly, I couldn't resist them.
"Actually, I wanted to ask your name. We didn't have any formal intro yet. I mean, you know my name but I don't know yours." He said, in a rueful tone.
"Moon Mukherjee" I extended a hand.
"Moon?" His face wore a teasing expression and he starts laughing.
"I fail seeing any humor in it." I was annoyed. It wasn't the first time someone created a joke out of the name I was fucking blessed with.
"Oh please. Spell it girl."
"Don't be silly. Even a first standard lad would spell my name correctly. Hey there, do you know the spelling of 'moon'?"
I caught a little girl passing beside, who looked into my eyes for a while, maybe because she didn't understand any of what I said. And then flew away, ignoring me. Barry was laughing like a hurricane inside his stomach, which was more than obvious from his face.
"Is it M, double O, N?" He finally asked, controlling his laughing emotion.
I nodded in agreement."That one?" He pointed his finger towards the 'moon' in the sky.
"Of course man. Are you drunken? You're repeating the same question in a number of ways."
"Sorry. But I wonder why your parents grabbed out this name like if there was a shortage for 'names' those days."
"No it was the house owner who suggested it, we used to live on rent those days. She found me beautiful enough to compare with the 'moon' in sky." Oh my good god, I blushed after saying this.
"Oh optimism" He says.
"Come on Moon, we're going home" My parents called. Albeit the function was not over but my parents were never interested in school functions and I share the mutual thought. My school functions involve monotonous songs on which children are forced to dance ,often going off beat. Choir disappoints.
"I need to go Barry, bye!"
"Yayy"
