Upset (Daniel Ricciardo)

Your parents, they were the most important people in your life. Well, maybe with Daniel as an exception. Daniel was your boyfriend. You had met him a few years back, but back then you were only friends so you didn't feel the need to introduce him to your parents.

But a few weeks earlier the both of you had given in to your feelings and were now a couple, much to the likings of your friends who had been shipping you ever since you had met.

Now you were about to introduce Daniel to your parents, introduce your parents to Daniel more importantly. You knew the Australian dork all to well and you knew your parents very well so you foresaw a few problems. Your parents were very conservative. A man would have to look after his wife, being there for her, being able to support the family and be able to raise kids in the best environment. Men who were a Formula One driver didn't really fit in that description to their opinions.

"Babe, why are you so nervous." Daniel took your hand in his as he had just parked his Aston Martin. "We are meeting your parents, you're not meeting mine."

"That is the whole problem. You are meeting mine." You put the emphasis on mine. "Trust me Dan, first impressions are a lot with them."

"Then let's give them a good one." He bent towards you and pressed a kiss to your lips. "Let's go." He had a big smile on his face and walked around the car to open the door for you. You chuckled at his silliness and hooked your arm through his and together you walked to the backyard to walk into the house through the back door.

"Hey mom." The back door lead almost straight to the kitchen where your mother was.

"Y/n!" She smiled and quickly cleaned her hands to give you two kisses, on both of your cheeks one. "And you must be Daniel." She looked at him with a judging look in her eyes.

"Hello." Daniel extended his hand. "It is lovely to finally meet the mother of this beauty." You could see on your mother's face she didn't really like the remark. You were glad your father walked in and your mother could shift her attention towards him.

"There is my little princess." You hugged your father and smiled at him.

The next day when Daniel had gone off to train, you decided to call your mother. The day before you hadn't had the chance to ask her or your father what they thought of Daniel.

"Hi mom." You laid on the couch under a plait. The weather was slightly cold and you had decided to have a nice slow day as you had a busy week ahead. "I just wanted to ask you what you thought of Daniel..." Your mother stayed awfully quiet.

"He uh... Is a nice lad." You sighed. "He uh, is uh... Let me ask you, is he good for you? I mean he is away so much and is practising such a dangerous sport, can he support you enough?" You sighed, you knew this was coming. "And doesn't he drive you crazy?"

"Excuse me?" You asked her. "Why would he drive you crazy?"

"He is so chirpy, a little too much." You huffed.

"Just say it, you don't like him."

"I didn't..."

"Yeah you did." You started to tear up. All you wanted from your parents was for them to at least like him a little. "Dan is coming home." It wasn't a lie, you heard the front door open. "I have got to go." You hung up on your mother and wiped away the stray tear on your cheek.

"I'm home babe," Daniel said and he gave you a kiss on your cheek. "What's going on?" You shook your head, but Daniel didn't give up and you eventually told him.

"They think you are to chirpy and you can't support me enough..." Daniel frowned, he didn't really know what to say. He just took you in his arms.

"As long as we love each other it is all fine right?" Daniel wished your parents would have liked him a bit more, but as long as you loved him and you were happy he didn't care, but unfortunately for him, it weighed on your chest.

"I guess..." Daniel sighed. He knew it troubled you.

"I have to go..." He said while letting go fo you. "I have forgotten to do something which is very important." You frowned and your heart started beating faster. Did you just scare him off by telling him your parents didn't like him that much?

"Oh okay..." You softly said. Daniel gave you a kiss and got into his car. He had remembered the way to your parents' house fortunately and it didn't take long before he parked his car in the exact same spot he had done the day before. He walked up to the front door and he rung the bell.

"Daniel..." Your mother said, not all too happy when she opened the door. "What a surprise."

"Hello ma'am, is your husband maybe home?" Your mother frowned.

"Yes he is..." Daniel gathered all the courage he needed one last time.

"Could I maybe talk to the both of you?" Your mother nodded and called for your father. She let Daniel to the living room and they both took place and your father didn't take long before he sat down too.

"What do you want to talk about?" Your mother asked.

"I just came home from a training when I found my girlfriend and your daughter on the couch, being sad." Your parents frowned. "She had just gotten off the phone and was quite upset about the fact you don't like me because I can't support her enough and I am too chirpy." Your father shot a look at your mother who started to blush a little. "I just wanted to tell you that I am doing everything in my power to make your girl happy, and I believe I am doing quite a good job so far. And on the chirpy part, your daughter makes me this happy. I can't help but be chirpy whenever I am around her." It remained silent. "That was all I wanted to say." He stood up and greeted your parents before leaving.

You were home, eating chocolates, still being upset about what your mother had told you when your phone started ringing. It was your mother.

"Hey mom." You sighed.

"Hey darling. I am sorry, I need to change my opinion about Daniel. He just dropped by to tell us he wasn't too keen on the fact I upset you with our opinion and to explain himself." You smiled. "Maybe he is not so bad after all." Again you started to tear up, but this time of relieve, but of course, Daniel just had to walk back in.

"Mom, Dan is back, I'm gonna go."

"Okay darling, we love you."

"Love you too." you threw your phone on the sofa and hugged Daniel.

"That was my mom." You said, the smile still on your face. "She and dad have changed their opinions. You really impressed them by showing up." Daniel chuckled and you kissed him. "I love you."

"I love you too, but I was horrified of your parents showing up there without you knowing they didn't like me that much."

"You horrified? You drive a few hundred miles an hour!" Daniel shook his head. "I still love you, big dork." Again you pressed your lips against his. Ow, how big of a dork was this man.
