I stare down at my phone mystified by it. Should I answer it? Who could this possibly be? If it doesn’t stop ringing in three seconds I’ll answer it.

Where is all this paranoia coming from? Its fine, I’m fine. I close my eyes and start counting backwards… three, two, one.

I push the answer like it’s a ticking bomb and excuse myself a little away from Mekhi.

“He- hello?” I say into my phone. “Who is this?” I ask.

“Come back home.” A male speaks.

I pause trying to decipher if I know the voice and then I realize who it is, Obsidian.

I breathe a sigh of relief before I start speaking again.

“Seriously you scared the hell out of me, calling from an unknown number, I nearly had a heart attack.”

“Human who else would it be?” he says softly into the phone.

“I don’t know but by how my life is at the moment, it could have been anything, a serial killer, monster, hell maybe even a unicorn for all I know.”

“What an active imagination you have.” He says embarrassing me.

“You know… you could just call me Jesse.” I blurt randomly pushing a little.

Hearing his voice for some reason feels good, really good. Like a guilty pleasure. It’s kind of soft, maybe even a little friendly. It would be nice if he called me by my name.

“Anyhow, I only called you to tell you come back home, now.” He simply puts wrapping up my want for small talk and completely ignoring my request.

“Uh why… am I in danger?” I ask.

“Don’t ask questions and just come.” With that last note he hangs up the phone and I just sigh now from mental exhaustion.

Why does it always have to be like this? Why can’t we communicate better..? Whatever forget him, and his demand.

I suddenly remember I’m on a date, how could I forget. Guilt shoves its self straight down my throat. No Jesse you said you wouldn’t do this anymore, stop feeling guilty.

Obsidian has nothing to do with me.

I scurry over back to Mekhi and he is just leaning against his car waiting for me.

“I’m so sorry, it was an important phone call.” I say trying it keep my lie to a minimum.

“It’s cool, come on lets go.” Mekhi says opening the door for me.

As we drive this time it’s silent. I don’t talk, he doesn’t either which makes my guilt only increase.

Calm down Jesse, paranoia is not a good color on you.

Itake a peek at my camera phone and I’m sweating like crazy, it looks like I just murdered someone.

Mekhi is silent maybe it’s just because he’s a little tired; clubs can do that to you. He doesn’t know anything, how could he… I was a good distance away from him.

I need to think of a solution to end this silence and my paranoia. Think Jesse, think…

Small talk, that’s it.

“The club, it was refreshing right.” I say.

“Yup, it was.” Mekhi says keeping his eyes on the rode and only a quick smile crosses his lips for a brief moment.

We stop at a stop light and my mouth just begins to run. Why, I have not the slightest clue, I guess it’s just in my personality.

“Sorry this may be inappropriate to ask but are you okay, are you upset… maybe at me?”
