The loud clanking and rocking of a conveyor belt opened the eyes of the new Variable, Ebony. She sat up quickly, only to be met with the sharp pain of hitting her head on metal. She blinked and shook her head gently to ease the ringing, then layed back down. She began to take in her surroundings, her hazel eyes scanning all that was around her. She reached up to the very low ceiling and brushed her fingers against the metal.

Iron Copper compound... They really didn't want anything that passed through here to leave.

She pulled her hand back and rested it by her side. Looking to her left Ebony got a small flicker of hope. Vents were on each side of the tunnel, but they were made of the same material as the walls and the ceiling. She let out a groan and cursed shifting her body, attempting to ease out the knots and sores in her muscles.
A few minutes passed and the belt started to slow. An opening was coming up soon, and she didn't know was was waiting for her.
She racked through her brain to think of an escape plan, but time was running short. She needed something simple, like playing dead.

That was it!

She turned over her palms, so they were face up, and relaxed her body, no matter how much it protested. Her only choice was to wait for the right moment and fight her way out. If she could... She'd just have to hope.

As the belt slowed to a stop, Ebony felt the familiar sensation of having artificial light shone upon her skin. But she had no time to enjoy it, for she was picked up by strong and worn out hands that carried her to another room

As they entered the room, the temperature had dropped considerably. And it smelled funky, almost like moldy cheese. Ew. She wanted to keel over and gag, but she had no choice but to wait and breathe it all in.
Then someone in the room spoke, she guessed it wasn't her carrier. "Who's she?" The stranger asked, his tone having a hint of concern. Her carrier replied in a rough and pretty unintelligent way;

"This is the new Variable. I believe her name is Ebony. Boss says we gotta freeze her, she's the final piece to the Equation."

She flinched, immediately regretting it. Ear deafening silence followed. She strained her ears to listen for sounds, voices even, but all she heard was the faint 'clank crank' of the conveyor belt from the other room.

The strange voice spoke again a barely detectible hint of hope in his speech
"Is she waking up?"
Her carrier laughed "No. The sedative we used lasts as long as we need it to. It's probably her body having a reaction in REM." He said calmly and put her down on, what she guessed was, the floor. A small 'fizz' alerted her curiosity, and a small gust of mist alerted her nerves, she guessed it was caused by something cold, rode along the hairs of her body causing her to shiver. Then it hit her, they were placing her in a cryopreservation capsule.

So that's what they meant by freezing me!

Her eyes flew open and she sat up, turning around and sweeping the man that... Wait he was a boy? And he was her age. She watched as the surprised boy crashed to the ground with a grunt, the other boy just looked at her shocked. He then gathered himself up and charged at her, earning a punch straight to the face. As the boy clutched his face She ran out of the room, making a left turn and running down the long hall. It was only a matter of time before the alarm went off and she wanted to cover as much distance as she could...
