Ebony looked put the window at the barren wasteland she used to call home. She sighed and turned to face the front of the helicopter, she was still deciding on whether her choice to travel with these people.
"I'm going to ask you guys a question. Answer truthfully because if I think it's fake I will run away from you guys as well" She said and Jake turned around to face her suspicious eyes. He sighed and stood up from the co-pilot seat. "You want me to be honest? Alright, you shouldn't trust us." He said leaning against the wall of the helicopter. "But I assure you, I personally will give you a reason to trust us. To trust me." He spoke, his voice full of silent determination. She noticed his eyes were full of as much determination as his voice and nodded. "Alright. I won't trust you, until you give me that reason." She said looking back outside the window. He nodded and sat back in the co-pilot chair. "Head back to base, I don't know if I can go back to CCL after the stunt we pulled today." Jake sighed and rubbed his head, he'd have one hell of a stressful week.
"CCL... What is it? Is that where we just left?" Ebony asked not turning around, she had just asked. None of this made sense and she had to make sense of it before her head exploded. "And what's a radi gun? I know it's dangerous but no one explained it to me while we we're scrambling around trying not to get shot." She said with a small smirk. Jake chuckled and stared at the barren landscape Infront of him. "I'll explain once we get back to base" He said. Ebony noted that the whole situation was probably a whole lot worse than she thought.
More than a few hours later, they flew over a city she guessed was Rome. Or what used to be Rome. Her eyebrows furrowed in concern and she observed the remains of the once busy city. "Where are all the people?" She asked finally realizing that it was too quiet. Jake sighed "They're all dead. Or they have the Flare and are dying" He said solemnly (All credit does to the creator of the Maze Runner series for creating the Flare)
Ebony's shoulders stiffened and she suddenly felt sick. "W-what happened" She choked out, holding her stomach to keep her from puking.
"A storm" He said and his face went from stressed to dark. "One of the worst storms in history. Imagine Hurricane Sandy plus a Tsunami as tall as World Trade Center. Then multiply that by twenty" He said gravely and looked at her "Only ten percent of the human population survived. Then that decreased after people lost their reproduction. Right now only four percent remains" Her mouth stood a gape and she felt her blood run cold.
"It couldn't have been that intense. No way a storm like that could ravage all of the earth." She said her body beginning to shiver.
'This can't be true. It's not true'
I've gotten myself into real deep shit haven't I...
