Chapter 23

Authors Note: Hi guys! What do you think so far? Sorry that I haven't updated within a few days, but here is the next chapter! :D

Now I just want to say something, characters like the Doctor, Martha, Donna and Jack etc belong to the BBC but other characters like Ashly, Kara, Einstern, Gunner etc plus the plot line to the story belong to ME. I'm only saying this because I have noticed some people (who will remain nameless but you know who you are) are using these and passing it off as their own work. I have worked on this for months and consider it one of my best, so please don't copy my work or at least talk to me about it. Thanks. Rant over...

I apologize to the other readers who are not involved with this, having to read through my rant paragraph... sorry! D:

It was midday when the sun was highest in the sky and the long line of people were walking once more through the thick under-growth of the vast and carnivorous rain forest. Their spirits seemed to have brightened as they had a bounce to nearly every step they took, except for the injured people, who still were being dragged along on the makeshift boards. I trudged along at the head of the column by the Doctor's side with Jack and Kara following closely behind us. The sky was hidden from view by thick canopies of the trees but I could hear a distant buzz and the calls of a cloud of flying birds that were hunting for the insects drawn out by the morning dew. A familiar scent wafted to my nose and we came upon a small area filled with trees that had white and purple flowers sprouting from their twisted trunks and above in the canopy, were hundreds of figs, ripe for picking. I realized then that these were the figs that were used to make the Moparne juice that the Master had told me about a few days earlier, and this sent a small stabbing pain to shoot into my hearts and made my throat close up. I looked around and some of the people also saw these figs, some tried to climb the twisted and gnarly trunks but failed as they slid back down. Sighing, I readied myself and pounced up the side of the trunk, small claws protruding from my nails allowed me to grip the bark without slipping, and I carefully made my way up the towering tree. I got to the first layer of figs and started to shake the branch, letting the small, ripe purple figs dropping to the floor like raindrops, and further up, I saw even more. I climbed to the very top, shaking the figs off as I went, until I burst out of the top of the treeline to be greeted by the blood orange sun and the pale green sky. In the distance I saw a small column of smoke billowing up into the sky, this was obviously part of what I saw last night, the pale orange tinge in the distance was fire, and the direction that it was in would mean that it was probably the base. The base was on fire. Fear bubbled up inside me, the Master was there and the base was on fire, I wanted to know if he was alright and wanted to know what happened, but when I tried to contact him, all I got was the same old mental barrier, keeping me out.

I let go of the branch that anchored me to the tree and free fell down to the forest floor, landing almost silently and startling some people who busied themselves from gorging on the ripe figs, purple juices ran down their chins like sticky glue. The Doctor saw me with my panicked expression and instantly wandered over to me and placed two hands on my shoulders to steady me.
