Samantha felt empty inside. She couldn't formulate how her half sister was evil and planned to kill her.
She barely spoke a word to anyone other than Peter. She stared at nothing for increasing amounts of time.
Her ears thudded as she heard her own heart beat over and over again.
"Sammy, Sammy?" She heard someone calling her, but the voice sounded miles away. "Samantha."
She blinked her eyes and focused on Michelle who had been calling her.
Her friends all stared at her with varying levels or worry and curiosity at their lunch table
"Sorry, I was thinking," she whispered. "What's up?"
"We were talking about going to the football game today," Michelle said slowly.
"Oh yeah, of course." Samantha offered a weak smile to the table, which all but Peter returned.
When the bell rang, Michelle and Ned stood leaving for their class. Samantha moves much slower and was in a near empty cafeteria before she had finished gathering her things.
She's unaware of Peter standing and waiting for her. Throwing her bag on her shoulder, she looks up to make direct eye contact with him.
"Sammy, are you okay?" Peter asked her softly, the concern showing in his eyes.
"Yeah, Peter. I'm fine," Samantha says shrugging him off.
"Samantha, how are you, really?"
Samantha sighed, starring at her shuffling feet.
"Not good, Pete. But I'll be okay."
"We don't have to go to the football game..."
Samantha interrupted him by shaking her head. "No, I want to go to the game, I really do," she said, smiling at him.
Peter hesitated.
"I mean it, Peter. It'll make me feel better."
"Okay, Sammy," he said smiling softly at her and grabbing her hand in his to walk to class together.

Samantha stared at Peter talking to Ned at the snack stand, while her and M.J. had gotten them seats. She noticed the way his eyes crinkled when he laughed and how intently he paid attention to the words his best friend said. Peter glanced over making contact with her. Her face filled with a blush as she quickly looked down and fidgeted with her hair.
"I saw that," Michelle hummed.
"What?" Samantha asked, looking at her friend with wide eyes.
"You still like Peter."
"What... what no... psh no..." Samantha said.
"No?" Michelle said, raising an eyebrow and smirking at her friend.
Silence filled the air before Samantha spoke again.
"Is it that obvious?"
"Just as obvious that he likes you."
Samantha opened her mouth to respond, but felt someone sit next to her.
"We got snacks!" Ned said, smiling at the girls.
"Thanks, Ned," Samantha said, smiling at her friend. They passed the snacks around and turned to the field when the speakers announced the teams.
"Flash is on the football team?" Samantha asked her friends.
"Yeah, he just got on, I think," Peter said.
