A Foxes Journey Book One: Bright Light's Story

Chapter IX: Superior

LeafBreeze was upon MountainRange. Bright Paw was excelling in her training, and Ice Tail gave her more and more compliments as she worked harder and harder and they had gotten super close too.

Dark Breeze was a bit slower than she used to be. She was living with the fact that her sons were dead. They never had a family because their real father had died before their birth and so Rain Shower was their step father and Pool Shine their half sister. She began to wonder if StreamRange should be taken out because of their actions, but she changed her mind. They had won the battle, and she didn't want to put other foxes through this pain.

"Foxes, come and hear my words. Come gather around the Dark Cliff for a Range meeting." All the foxes came, and Dark Breeze announced steadily, "Sage Paw, Turtle Paw, and Alder Paw are ready to become full Ranks." Turtle Paw looked down arrogantly.

"Sorrel Paw, should be a Rank too!" she snapped. "Even though she's dead, she deserves to have a Rank and a full name. She gave her life in a battle, and that is what a true Ranking would do. Please, give her her Ranking and her full name Dark Breeze." Dark Breeze nodded her head.

"StarRange, Sorrel Paw has been dead for quite some time, but she deserves to have a Full name, but I don't have the power to make her a Rank anymore so StarRange may you give her a Rank she deserves. She has survived her pup months, and I pronounce her Sorrel Song, StarRange may you accept her as a full StarRange member."

"Sorrel Song, Sorrel Song, Sorrel Song," the Range chanted. They yowled their utmost joy to have Sorrel Paw recognized at last.

"Turtle Paw, you have survived your pup and apprentice months, and I now pronounce you Turtle Star and an Ice Fox . May StarRange welcome you as a full member of MountainRange," Dark Breeze said, standing a little taller. "Alder Paw, Sage Paw, you have survived your pup and apprentice months as well, and I now pronounce you Alder Snow a Storm Fox, in honor of your great grandfather, White Snow, and Sage Foot a Hail Fox, in honor of your great great grandmother, Doe Foot." The Range went into more caterwauling.

Bright Paw cheered for Turtle Star, Sage Foot, and Alder Snow although she knew that she was inferior compared to them, and she had to continue training. Dark Breeze looked at her.

"Bright Paw," she said. Bright Paw looked up at her, confused. "You have worked very hard in your life filled with hardship. Bright Paw, you have survived your pup and apprentice months, and I now pronounce you Bright Light for the intricate things that describe you and you are a Storm Fox." Dark Breeze looked at Ice Tail. "You are an honorable mentor and we shall forever respect that. I hope that you and Bright Paw may have the life you want and wish for together." MountainRange went howling. Bright Light went out from the crowd as her RangeMates called her name. She was hungry, and she wanted some prey. Ice Tail almost seemed to read her mind he put his muzzle to her face to cuddle her and then took off to get the prey.

"Ice Tail, I am not hurt anymore so can I get my own prey please?" Bright Light asked her former mentor and tod friend patiently. Ice Tail wasn't giving up that easily.
