Chapter VIII: Burial

"Foxes of MountainRange, come underneath the DarkCliff to hear my words." Dark Breeze called as she paced back and forth. "We have won the battle of Bloody Stream, but not without casualties. The only Survivors of the patrol are Moss Fur and Shining Pebbles. Ice Tail, Smooth Boulder, and Bright Paw came late, but they fought hard, and survived. We come here tonight to gather for the deaths of Holly Berry, Ant Leap, Sorrel Paw, Turkey Feather, Owl Beak, Leaf Fur, Lion Claw, Sage Tree, Lavender Whisker, Dove Flight, Bird Wing, Cherry Fur, and Black Fur. MountainRange hopes you all have swift running and successful hunting in StarRange. As for Holly Berry's burial, Moss Fur, Shining Pebbles, you may bury her now. Little Song, may bury Ant Leap, her beloved brother. Rain Shower, Pool Shine, and I will bury Turkey Feather and Owl Beak. Turtle Paw, Funneling Cloud, you may bury Sorrel Paw and Leaf Fur. As for the rest those of us who were closely related to them may bury them " She flattened her fur, and said, "Turkey Feather, has been killed, and Turtle Paw needs a new mentor. Lighting Pelt is ready for another apprentice. Turtle Paw, will learn a lot from her."

Meanwhile, Shining Pebbles cleaned up her mother's matted, bloody fur and started to cry, while Moss Fur licked Holly Berry's torn cheek and whispered, "I love you, Holly Berry" as tears streamed out of his eyes too. There was no reply from her cold dead body. He then took her body and went out of the camp, to the burial site.

Suddenly, Bright Paw remembered when she was a pup. Her mother, digging a hole in the snow. She didn't know why she had to be out with her mother, all she knew was that she was crying and sad, because some fox had just died. Holly Berry was with them too, but then she realized it was her father. Tears streamed out of her eyes. She bowed her head in grief. Turtle Paw and Funneling Cloud cleaned up their loved one's fur, and took Sorrel Paw's and Leaf Fur's bodies to the burial site. Bright Paw could hear Turtle Paw moaning with grief.

Little Song carried Ant Leap. She cried no tears, but she looked shocked and blank. She took his body and walked silently out of camp.

Faith Song and Echoing Cave took Bird Wing and Dove Flight out of the camp and to the burial sight, while Raining Storm and Shimmering Creek took Sage Tree, Lion Claw, Lavender Whisker, Black Fur, and Cherry Fur to the burial sight.

Dark Breeze looked over her two sons. Rain Shower came over to her, she nuzzled her face into his fur, crying. Pool Shine weeped for the loss of her step brothers. They all paid their respects, and Dark Breeze buried her sons, heartbroken.
