Pre season 4 canon divergent - Caitlin stays and recovers Barry in her spare time.

CAITLIN POV

I slam my hands on the table before me in utter frustration. It had been 4 months. Four months I've been trying to get him out. I had decided to rejoin the team as soon as I realised Barry had left to save them all. To save us all. I've spent the last four months trying to get him out of the SpeedForce but it felt hopeless. I whisper to herself, "I'm coming for you Barry. Hold on," as I work - spurring myself on to try harder at finding him.

I recheck my maths again. I know my theory won't be perfect, I'm not a physicist after all, but I know there must be something... some way to save Barry. I sigh and continued working. This was better than the rest of the day, having to go along with whatever idea Iris has come up with this time. Not that I have a grudge against her just... some of her decisions are less than advisory. But no-one stands up. No-one has the energy. Or the effort. So we just go along with it. I'll change that one day but... I have bigger concerns.

A week later and I finally have a breakthrough. I take my notes, my research and a little bit of tech to the Ferris Air airstrip. I set things up like my theory entails. It's the best guess I have, the best guess we all have as to how to get him out - possibly because I'm the only one that's looking.

I whisper encouragement as I prepare the last pieces of my plan. "Come on Barry. Come home. Come back to us." I check everything is perfect as I begin the process. I lock onto his vitals and begin to smile with joy. I activate the second machine to open a breach and it performs perfectly. The lock on the vitals gets stronger as the fluid blue breach stabilised.

I look over at the final machine. "You better work," I whisper as I switch it on. The lightning shoots from the breach as it hits the machine. The machine stores the electricity as he gets closer. I see him fall out of the breach but I hardly have time for relief yet. I release the lightning in the third machine as the second one channels it into closing the breach. Permanently. It all performs perfectly. One Barry Allen has been rescued.

I run over to him as I check his vitals manually. Satisfied with my results I sigh out happily and help him stand up. He looks at me confused. "Cait? Is that you?" I smile at my newly recovered... friend... and reply to him gleefully. "Yes Barry it's me. Welcome back to the land of the living." He chuckles slightly at my response.

He observes the tech I used to bring him home. I understand it's a bit confusing so I was about to explain it when I realised that he was looking in awe. "Cait this... this is incredible. The way you got me out... this is brilliant!" I smile at him once more as I enjoy his bewilderment. "Yeah well... apparently it doesn't take much knowledge of physics or technology. I'm still not sure how a biochemist did this!" His jaw drops. "You mean that... this was all you? Not that I'm sad it was you just... I thought you might have all been involved."

I move to hug my friend and that I did. "Barry it's been difficult since you left. We've all wanted you back it's just... they didn't have the time. But I didn't have any sleep. So... It's not their fault?" Barry looks at me in shock... bewildered at what I had done. "Cait you... you skipped out on sleeping to help me? I'm greatful but you... you should have slept." I smile at his concern but brush it off. Metas that can regenerate need less sleep anyway.

Later that day I basically had Barry hidden in my apartment. But he still had no idea why. I turned to him an, after taking one look at his confusion began to explain. "Life's not the same round here. I know you probably want to see Iris but... you need to see what she's been doing recently." At another confused look I elaborate. "She's taken over Team Flash since you left. And she's not exactly running it the same way. Stick to the shadows tomorrow, for a bit. Learn what's changed before immersing yourself back in."
