5. Where Am I

"She won't remember last night's events." I hear someone say. I open my eyes. I see Josephine and everyone in my family except my mom. I try to sit up, but my stomach feels like it will break apart from my body.
"Don't get up." My brother says.
"What happened and why am I in the hospital." I demand.
"It's a long story...." Josephine said.
"We have time." I say motioning my hand across the room.
"It's not that, well it's a lot to process."
"When will I get out?" I ask.
"The doctor says at least a month..."
"WHAT!" I stare at everyone blankly.
"Yelling will not help." Trisha scolds me. There's a moment of silence.
"Where's mom?" I ask.
"She had to visit grandma in California." Jack said.
"We don't know, but she said at least two months." It quiet for a moment then a doctor comes in and whispers in something in Jacks ear, he nods. The doctor comes to me and says,
"You broke your spine and rib cage." I just sat there processing things.
"You should get some sleep." Then the doctor quietly left the room. About two minutes later Mrs Clarr comes to pick up Josephine, but first she comes to me and gives a get well card.
"You'll be in our prayers." She whispers and then walks out with Josephine.
"Well we should go." Jack says. He comes to me and gives me an awkward hug since I can't really sit up. Trisha comes and does the same except she whispers,
"You were very brave Grace." Then she walks over to Jack, they say goodbye and leave. What really happened last night? I wonder.
