Four Years Later
I wake to him leaving soft kisses across my forehead. He sees my eyes open and smiles.
"Hey, beautiful. Have a good nap?" He tucks a loose strand of hair behind my ear. I nod and sit up to kiss him quickly.
"Yeah, I needed it."
"Jackson's a handful." He says and we laugh together in agreement. "Do you want me to get him dressed?"
"That would actually be amazing," I smile and peck his lips one more time before getting up and stretching.
He leaves to take care of our 3-year-old son. I walk to the bathroom to paint on some makeup and fix my hair.
I can hear my husband and Jackson laughing down the hall while I blend on eyeshadow. I can only imagine that he's having a hard time getting the little boy to cooperate.
I smile to myself in the mirror at the thought as I brush on some mascara and finish with a light shade of lipstick.
I pull my hair back into a bun and curl two sections of hair at the front of my head so they frame my face.
I head back to my room and listen to a kid's cartoon playing on the TV in the living room.
I go to slip on my deep blue dress and examine how it looks in the floor-length mirror in our room.
He appears behind me and sets his hands on my waist as he stares at me.
"Jackson is watching TV, he's ready to go," He murmurs as his green eyes take in my appearance.
"How do I look?" I smile at him in the mirror.
"You look stunning," He breathes and brushes his lips against my neck. I shiver and reach back to pat his head.
"Focus, Noah." I giggle at him.
"How can I?" He complains as his eyes flicker up and down my reflection.
"Well you can start by zipping me up," I tell him. His hands move to the zipper on my dress and he pulls it up delicately.
"Thanks," I turn to face him and place my hands on his stubbly jawline. "We'd better get going soon, so finish getting dressed." He sighs and nods.
I leave the room and look for Jackson. Sure enough, he's sitting on the couch watching Barney and Friends.
"Hi, Momma." He says without taking his eyes from the screen.
"Hi, Jack." I brush his dirty blonde hair away from his face and turn my eyes to watch the show with him.
"Are you excited for the wedding?" I ask him and he puts his hands up as he shrugs.
"I think. Olivia is nice." He shifts his attention back to the TV.
Olivia is nice. I had been overjoyed to hear that she and Ross were engaged a couple months ago, and now that the day is here, I'm excited to see him finally get his happy ending.
After all, I already have mine, and my best friend deserves his own.
Noah appears in the living room in another ten minutes, dressed in a suit and tie.
"Did you plan that?" I ask and point at the stripes on his tie that match the color of my dress.
"Maybe a little." He grins at me and I shake my head with a laugh. "Jack, we have to go now," He says to our son and turns off the television.
