Tonight is the first football game of the season. I had been assigned to report on the game for the school newspaper, The Blue and Gold.
There aren't very many of us that worked on the paper just Betty Cooper, Jughead Jones, and me. Betty was a River Vixen so she couldn't do it as she would be cheering and Jughead tends to stay away from social events so I was assigned the project.
I am currently sitting on the bleachers typing up the beginning to my article and watching the team practice for tonight. I felt someone sit down beside me but I stayed focused on my writing.
"Need some help?" A voice said from beside me.
Jughead.
"No, thank you, I got it," I said looking up at him briefly and smiling.
He nodded "good call because I wouldn't even know what to say," he chuckled.
"I'm not exactly a sports buff, Jug."
"You know more then I do. I never understood the desire to tackle other guys over an egg shaped, leather ball." He replied leaning back against the seat behind us.
"Let's not forget the ass slap after a good game," I reminded him laughing.
"Ah, yes. Nothing says a job well done like a good hard slap on the ass," he said smirking.
I laughed, closed my laptop, and put it back in my bag.
"So you want to go to Pop's before the game?" I asked standing up in front of him and slipping my bag onto my shoulder.
"Lead the way, m'lady," he chuckled as he stood up and followed me off the bleachers.
Archie gave a quick wave when he noticed us. We waved back and headed to the school parking lot.
Jughead walked over to his motorcycle and reached for his helmet holding it out to me.
I looked at him confused, and a bit scared.
"I thought we could just walk," I protested.
He rolled his eyes "come on, y/n! Live a little!"
I bit my lip nervously before stepping up to him, grabbing the helmet, and climbing on the bike behind him.
"Just remember, if I die you get the sports article," I teased him, pulling on the helmet.
"Duly Noted, now can we go?"
I nodded and he revved it up as he pulled out of the school parking lot.
I squealed as he sped off down the road and my grip around his waist tightened. I felt him chuckle.
We pulled in at the diner a few minutes later. He cut off the engine and popped the kickstand out. I pulled the helmet off of my head and a grin formed on my face.
"That was actually really fun," I said excitedly.
He chuckled and climbed off the bike.
We walked into the diner and took a seat at our usual booth. I slid in my seat across from him, and Pop brought over our usual milkshakes.
I still had the stupid grin on my face and he just sat there watching me with his bright, green eyes.
"So does Betty like your motorcycle?" I asked playing with the straw in my cup.
His eyebrows furrowed and he looked confused "I don't know, she's never been on it."
"Well, why not? You two are dating aren't you?"
He laughed lightly "Me and Betty? No, we're not."
"Oh, I'm sorry. You guys just seem so close and you spend a lot of tome together outside of school so I just assumed," I stopped because I was starting to ramble.
"Are you jealous, y/n?" He asked smirking at me.
My eyes went wide "n-no," I lied. I have had a huge crush on Jughead for as long as I can remember.
He raised his eyebrows at me "hmm...no, Betty and I are just really good friends."
I nodded my head "okay," I responded moving a stray piece of hair behind me ear.
He eyed me curiously as we sat there in silence for a few moments.
"What about you and Archie?" He asked breaking the silence.
"What do you mean?" I asked confused.
"Aren't you two dating?"
I laughed nearly spitting out my milkshake "not hardly, no," I said looking over at him "I've just known him for a really long time."
He nodded his head, "good."
"Good?" I questioned him.
"Betty likes him she'll be glad to know he's available," he smiled at me.
"Oh, yeah, he definitely is," I looked down at the table and then at my phone "crap! I need to go the game will be starting soon and I need to get a good seat."
He frowned a little, "Okay. Do you want a ride back?" He asked me as I stood up to leave.
"Um...actually, yeah, if you don't mind. That'd be great."
"No problem," he said getting up out of his seat.
We walked back out to the parking lot and rode back to the school. I climbed off the back and Jughead killed the engine and climbed off behind me.
"Thanks for the ride and the milkshake," I told him as I handed him his helmet back.
"Anytime," He said taking it from me.
"I'll see you later, Jug," I told him as I turned to walk towards the field.
"Hey, y/n?" He yelled after me.
I turned back to him "Yeah?"
"Would you maybe want to meet me at the Bijou after the game?"
"Uh, Yeah sure...do you want me to invite the others?" I asked him.
He chuckled "Well, I mean you can, but that would kind of ruin our date don't cha think."
My eyes went wide, finally understanding "oh, OH! Yes, it definitely would." I smiled at him.
"Okay then, I'll see you after," he replied smirking at me.
"See you then," I replied.
I couldn't keep a grin off my face as I turned and walked the rest of the distance to the football field.
I looked over my shoulder at Jughead. He was still standing against his bike, arms crossed, smirk on his face, and he was watching me.
A blush crept over my face and I walked up the bleachers and found a good seat next to Kevin.
I filled him in on the events of today and he was just as excited about it as I was.
I couldn't believe I finally had a date with Jughead!
And to make a great day even better, we won the football game!
