Lily found herself lying on the cold ground once more. Her muscles were aching and crying out from her previous beating. Scars, bruises, and cuts decorated almost every inch of her body.
She had never known what the world was like outside of the room that she was currently in. She had been locked away in here since she could remember.
As if they knew she was thinking about them, Lily's so-called parents walked into the room. Her father was carrying a metal pole in his hands.
"Alright, bitch. I've had a bad day at work and I need to relieve a bit of anger." He grinned and walked closer to her. His teeth were brittle and cracking from the drugs that he used on a regular basis. She could smell his rancid breath from where she was currently huddled in the corner.
"Please, no." She whimpered softly, trying to push herself as far against the wall as she could.
He didn't say anything as he raised the metal pole above his head and struck her hard.
She screamed out in agony as the metal pole struck her leg hard. It was hard enough to leave a bruise immediately and it caused her to convulse in pain.
She felt 5 more hits. Her arm, her leg, her stomach, her back, and finally her head. For some reason they had always avoided hitting her in the face.
Lily was whimpering and writhing in pain as he threw the pole off to the side of the room.
Her mother walked up to Lily and put her cigarette out on her hip, laughing as she screamed at the pain.
Lily didn't know how much more she could take. She could already see the little black dots forming in her vision.
Her parents then began to start kicking her. In her stomach, her legs, her chest, anywhere other than her face.
It didn't take long before the darkness consumed her vision. She could faintly hear her own cries in the background. She welcomed the darkness as a friend. It took her in and protected her from the pain.

Lily woke up with a determination. She was finally going to leave this horrid place. From what she had heard from conversations, there was a backdoor right in front of the basement door. She was going to escape from there.
Slowly she stood up, her muscles aching and her wounds from earlier were bleeding. One in particular was bleeding very badly.
She was dizzy from the loss of blood and the concussion that she undoubtedly had from when she was hit in the back of the head. However, she knew that there was no was that she could stay where she was.
She knew that it was dark from the tiny window above her head. That was her only way of telling night from day.
Quietly, she hobbled over to the door and tested the knob. It was unlocked. It was likely that her parents were under the impression that she would just stay there and not try to escape. Either that, or they had just become lazy and careless.
You couldn't blame them for thinking that. For the past 18 years she had stayed put. They had no reason to believe that she would try to escape.
Lily slowly opened the door, cringing slightly when it creaked loudly.
She slowly slipped out of her room and made her way up the wooden stairs, cringing at every noise they made.
It took her a while to get up the stairs because of the aching in her muscles and the weakness of not having enough food in her body.
Lily slowly turned the knob of the basement door and cracked the door open ever so slightly so that she could peek into the room. Immediately, the horrible, pungent smell of alcohol and smoke invaded her senses. She cringed at the smell.
The room was dark, but light was coming from a different room off to the side. She assumed that was where her "parents" spent most of their time. She could always hear them laughing and talking. The room was essentially right above hers.
Lily could hear loud noises coming from the same room that the light was. She assumed that someone was watching tv. The tv seemed to be turned up to the highest volume, which gave Lily hope. Maybe they wouldn't hear her trying to leave.
Slowly, Lily crept out from the stairway and made her way to an old-looking wooden backdoor. The once-white paint was peeling and now a gross yellow color.
Lily slowly opened the door and slipped out quietly. The frigid air instantly made her stop. The freezing temperature and cold snow on the ground overwhelmed her senses to a whole new level. The coldness was irritating her injuries and was causing her extreme discomfort. Along with that, her body was completely bare and she had no fat to protect her frail little body from the cold. However, she knew that she couldn't stay here any longer, she decided that she would have to tough it out.
With newfound determination, Lily started running as fast as her scrawny legs would take her. Every step caused her immense agony but she knew that she couldn't stop. Stopping would mean death. She wasn't going to die, not like this.
Lily kept running for as long as she could, but that wasn't very long. Her body was just to weak and it was too cold for her to keep going. It didnt take very long before she collapsed. Black dots quickly began to invade her vision.
As the darkness quickly consumed her, Lily thought about how, perhaps this was a better way to die. The coldness was causing her to become numb. She couldn't feel a thing. She smiled at the thought that she would no longer have to endure pain again.
Just as she was about to lose consciousness she felt as if she was being lifted up out of the snow and felt an amazing warmth. She felt as if strong arms were taking her away from this world, to a place where she would never have to feel pain again.
She smiled as darkness consumed her.
