Christmas Night.
Scarlett had enjoyed a nice day with her family, but she needed to clear her mind. It was around 10 o'clock when she decided to just walk around the neighborhood by herself. Her parents probably wanted some alone time anyway, so it was a win-win. Scarlett dug her hands in her jeans pocket and started down the quiet street. It was still Christmas, so the streets were empty and everyone was inside their houses drinking egg nog and laughing with their families. Scarlett stopped and saw a little girl, no more than five years old, staring out her window, and right at her. Scarlett waved and smiled at the little girl who waved back with hesitation.
Scarlett chuckled to herself. She loved kids.
As she walked down the streets, the Christmas lights still twinkled and the decorations were still standing tall. Frosty the Snowman was glowing, and Santa Claus was riding his sleigh. Scarlett loved Christmas.
But her mind was in another place.
Randy's voice echoed in her head.
"I really did love you, but I guess it wasn't enough."
His words were slurred, but Scarlett knew he meant everything he said. They say the drunk people are the most honest people, and she knew Randy was intoxicated when he called her. That's what broke her heart. He sounded so sad, all because of her. Because of her selfish mistake. Scarlett had regretted her decision since the moment it came out of her mouth. She knew it was a terrible decision, but for some reason, she couldn't stop herself. Her heart kept telling her to break up with Randy so she wouldn't have to go through anymore pain. But the look of disappointment and hurt that was in Randy's eyes was too much for Scarlett to bear. It tore her apart.
Scarlett sighed. She wished there was some way to fix the situation, but Scarlett didn't know if she could face Randy ever again. The guilt ate at her.
She groaned. Why couldn't she just forget about him? Life would be so much easier if he could just leave her memory, or better yet, if they never met in the first place.
But Scarlett knew she still cared for Randy, and there was no getting rid of that feeling.
Scarlett stared at her reflection in the window of a closed down coffee shop. She shivered when she realized her skin was as pale as ghost. A cold breeze then blew onto her body, sending chills down her spine. It felt like she was being followed, or someone was, behind her, watching her every move.
She could see an image of a person in the reflection of the windoow. She fixed her gaze on a tall, slim figure who was staring at the back of her head. She looked closer and saw brown eyes. That's when she recognized the two toned hair.
"Seth?" Scarlett whirled around to see him standing there in a black hoodie and jeans.
"I thought that was you," he chuckled as Scarlett ran up to hug him, spinning her around.
"What are you doing here in Texas? I thought you'd be in Iowa," Scarlett asked.
"Nah," Seth shrugged, "I decided to visit some friends down here for Christmas this year," he smiled.
"Well you could have told me," Scarlett playfully punched his arm, "We could've hung out you dummy," she teased.
"There's actually something I needed to show you," the smile disappeared from Seth's face.
Scarlett raised her eyebrow as Seth took his phone out of his pocket. "What is it? A nude pic of you?" she laughed.
"Not exactly," Seth handed the phone over to Scarlett, who's jaw dropped.
