Elena turned to Elijah and slipped in a half breath, "Did you see what I've just seen?"

"Yes, Elena." Elijah said and having checked everyone around.

"Jeremy!!" Elena communicated with her panicky eyes to Elijah.

Everyone else was still dancing like nothing had happened. It was clear that this was something connected with them. Elijah now grabbed Elena by the hand and whisked her out of the Ballroom, as if it was a certain private thing going on, making sure he was not drawing attention for others to think it was something else in the matter.

Hayley, who danced with Jackson, now broke from the Crescent Alpha and followed Elejah out.

Elijah, who had noticed the female hybrid's shadow and smell, now stopped outside, holding Elena close to him as if they were about to kiss, putting his cheek onto hers, making out he was kissing her by the ear, he whispered ever so lightly in Elena's ear about Hayley having followed them and that theyshould not act suspicious. He also added-

"I am going to leave now. You stay. I will be back in no time. I will go check on him."

Elena nodded a little and now seeing the hybrid lurking, she pressed her cheek warmly on Elijah's saying sweetly, "All right. Don't be long."

Faster than the speed of light, Elijah swished away as he made sure the hybrid or anyone else wasn't tailing him.

Elena now went to the garden and sat down on a bench. She tried her hardest to stop her heart going wild, worrying terribly about Jeremy, but also bacause of the pretence she played along to with Elijah earlier.

Flashback

In the car to the Ball

"There is a cold war between going on between us, Marcel and the witches."- Elijah explained-"the werewolves are/were on our side, but - due to my arrangement Hayley no longer shares our - the Mikaelson interests. This Ball is about showing weight. Who is who and where we all stand. Klaus and I agreed to let Marcel live in the false hope that he runs the city. At this very moment this made up truce of sorts is to our benefit. I am so sorry that we are involving you in alk this, but -"

Apologizing for the interuption, Elena now cut in-

"Whether we like it or not we are always involved."

Carolune trird now to difuse the apparent tension and said-

"We are going to be your eyes and ears."

"Thank you."- Elijah said.

Elena now sighed remembering the cinversation. She now looked at tbe ring on her finger. It was remarkable how life could change from one minute to tbe next. She now shot back to the night before her parent's accident

Flashback

Gilbert House Mystic Falls

Elena rolled down on her bed talking to Caroline on the phone-

"I think that Matt and I - don't know - if we have the same dreams anymore. Huh-"

"Lena- I think that it's time we change - everything. Boyfriends, hair, shoes. Everything. Live a little. I really need to buy some new shoes. And I hate all these dresses. What was I thinking? We need to go shopping tomorrow."- Caroline's head now swayed from the topic. But Elena's sigh on the other line brought the blonde right back to the matter at question.

"This year it will all be new and different. And- I know that you will go over and over it - but you and Matt are history. If you don't feel it anymore, you should just - break up."
