In the morning

Elena looked at the ring Elijah had given her. The amber of the diamond shone at her like the rays of the sun. Elena sighed and wondered away in her thoughts to a few weeks earlier.

"What am I doing?" Elena put the question to herself again. But she a pause on that thought as her phone rang. Seeing who it was, she muttered,"Caroline"

"Oh, so, I am thinking- pale rose or teel."

"What?" Elena was lost.

"Bridesmaid dress. Teel is more appropriate since it is no real wedding-wedding- right?"

"Whatever." Elena said letting a little sifh out.

Caroline, who knew that all that her friend was going through at that moment was far from easy, now tried to lighten things up.

"It's not like you are going have to be - like really a married couple."

"We - kind of - will have to." Elena said.

"Wait - what? I thought it was just you mixing your blood with Elijah's with some crazy old so-called wedding vows just to bind you to this mystical something that the hunter's line doesn't kill Jeremy and - you will live your life and he will live his life - with that tramp"

Elena now cut in,"The vows are not like the vows that people say at weddings. It's mystical and really binding - and they are - real. And - we will have to consume - I can't believe I am saying this- the marriage - otherwise the ritual will not be completed. Body and soul have to become one."

"So, one night with Elijah is not going to be - that bad, is it? He is not - unattractive. Elena did you not seen him-?" Caroline referred now to the moment they saw Elijah boxing in the gym.

"Care! It's not - that - it's- awkward. It's Elijah!"

"It's Elijah- what?" Caroline said in all innocence.

"What do you mean - what? It's - " Elena said,"I can't explain."

"I know that he is an Original nightmare, and- he is kind of - stuffy- but "

"Exactly - but! Caroline, please"

"What do you want me say- maybe if he puts a leather jacket on, you may just fall for him. I - don't know. Get drunk. I will make sure there is plenty of champagne around on the day. Do you like have to do it on the wedding night?"

Elena sighed now-"We have from one full moon to the next."- Elena said-"it's some ancient thing - giving the bride to get to know the groom- Oh, I can't believe I am saying this."

"A lot can happen in a month"- Caroline said-"and - you said that he is a good kisser."

"Yeah- but a kiss - which was - not really a kiss- and he was kissing Katherine."

"What if he - knew it was not Katherine."- Caroline said.

"Ugh! It doesn't matter. It's just - weird. Can we not talk about it. When are you going to be here? I really need - a friend. Everyone here is just - and Hayley is constantly hanging around."

"In a couple of days."

"Please be here for the Ball."- Elena said.

"I will. Anyway, how is Jeremy doing?"
