Goodbye

"Wait, I'm a breaker? And weapons? What weapons! I don't have any weapons! This isn't fair!" This can't be happening to me! I never slip up, ever. My whole life I've been practicing control and I've mastered masking my curse.

"You have revealed that you're capable of both shooting water out of your hands and growing roots from your feet? Those are dangerous weapons and you cannot be allowed to roam free about the Blue section or any other for that matter. Now, do you have any requests or more questions before you are escorted into the Lost Zone?"

I have a million. But the only one thing matters now is seeing my family. There's no way to get out of this one, I can't lie to their faces when they've seen the truth. I can't try to cover what everyone knows. I'm trapped and the sooner I accept it, the better.  "Can I see my family?"

"Of course. Please take her to one of the waiting rooms." Says Aliyah to the guards who've been standing behind me. They immidently lift me to my feet and keep me between them. Like I'm going to run away, but that would just cause more trouble for my family.

They lead me down a few hallways but I don't pay attention. It's really just hit me that I grew roots. I've known since I was about four years old that I could control water and my mother was very strict about me concealing it and controlling it. I had no idea I could control Earth. I suppose it makes sense seeing as how my father came from there and all.

"Wait here until your family arrives. You are not to reveal why you are leaving and you may not take anything with you that is not already on your person. You will be searched for weapons in a few moments before your family is allowed in." I let out a low growl from deep in my chest. Do they really think that I'd hurt my family?! A few minutes after the guards leave, a younger looking woman dressed in grey comes up to me.

"I will have to pat you down to make sure that you don't possess any weapons. This is for your safety." she says in a monotone voice. She must do this all of the time, help make innocent and not so innocent people become Lost. I'm pulled out of my thoughts when her hands get to my waist after passing over my arms. I suddenly remember the small knife I keep in my right boot. Its only there to help me cut fishing lines and other things but this woman doesn't know that, nor do I think she would care.

Her hands are now on my calves and my hands are sweating. Is she supposed to check my boots?

"Please remove your shoes." Crap. I bend down and as I go to slide off my right shoe, I stick my thumb in my boot so it looks like I'm pushing it off. With my thumb I pull the knife out and into my palm where I tuck it into my sweater sleeve which I'm wearing over a body suit which is tucked into my favorite cargo pants. It helps to have been obsessed with magic tricks from a young age. It also helps that it was strangely chilly today, hence my clothing.

With both shoes off and the knife tucked away, the woman looks in my boots and gives them back to me. "Your family will be in shortly." With that she leaves. I wait a few moments and look around. The room is nothing special, there are a few chairs and a coffee table and a picture of a bald man wearing nothing but mud and a loin cloth. Gross.

The door opens and I turn around to see my mom, dad, older brother Noah, and Eli rush in. I'm surprised they let Eli in considering she isn't technically family. My mom has dark skin and blue like the rest of us. Her hair is long, as is mine. She's wearing a flowing green dress that matches my dads shirt, they must've been having dinner together. Dad is wearing nice pants and his blond hair is styled nicely. My brother is wearing swim shorts and a tank top that shows off his abs, and Eli is wearing the same top and shorts from earlier. It feels like us fighting over that bed was days ago.

"Oh my god Sam what happened?!" Eli is the first to speak while whisking me into a tight hug. Dad, Noah, and Mom join the embrace. "I can't talk about it but I want you all to know how much I love you guys," I say sniffling. I don't want to cry but I probably won't see my family again. I pull back and look at them all. When i catch my mom's eye I can tell she's already guessed what happened and she knows that there is no way out of this one.

"We love you too Sammy," Noah says giving me a small smile. I smile back at the goofy nickname.

We talk for a while about random things, trying to avoid the elephant in the room before our time is up. When a guard comes in to usher my family away, I embrace them all one more time. "I don't know what I'm going to do without you guys," I say finally letting my tears fall. This makes them all begin to cry, even Big Bad Noah. "Awe! Look Noah is crying like a baby." I say trying to lighten the mood. They all chuckle but the mood stays sour. With a hug from them all, whispers of love, hope and encouragement from both ends, they're finally forced to leave. As they go through they look back at me. I wave and blow them all a kiss. My mom blows me one back, my dad smiles, Noah cries harder, and Eli "catches" it. It's our little thing from when we were young.

I stand in the room alone. I cry for the loss of my family, for the loss of my future, and for the fact that my stupid mistake got me in this mess. "M'am, it's time to leave." At the sound of a voice I look up and see a small man dressed in white like the rest of the guards. I wipe the tears away on my sleeve and straighten up. I will be strong for this. We begin to walk, me following blindly behind the guard. I broke a rule obviously, possessing weapons isn't a crime, although using them to harm others is. This makes me think, how did my water get through the force field? I won't be taken in front of a crowd, they'll open a piece of the barrier and I'll go in. Simple as that.

We reach a set of doors and the two men standing there open them to reveal a space that is half room, and then in the middle, there is the barrier cutting the room in half. The Court House is separated into three sections which are spread out throughout the town. They are all easily accessible to each other through underground walkways and other transportation making it seem like they're all very close together. One is the Court House it'self, the Housing of the leaders, and then the Meeting House where we are now. The Housing is located in the Blue Zone because we are the most efficient Zone. The other zones have leaders, but the main leaders reside in Blue. This has changed throughout the history of the Colors but Blue has been the current place for the Housing for many years.

The Meeting House is where the soon-to-be-Lost get to say their goodbyes or where their last wish is granted. it is also where they are sent into the designated area for the Lost. Behind a barrier so that they can't bring harm to anyone. behind the barrier, the lost are free to do whatever they please so long as they stay away from the barrier. The Lost area is heavily guarded from the outside while there are supposedly cameras and things inside to make sure if there are any uprisings, they can be caught before they get out of hand.

"You will be allowed a small bag with a sleeping bag and a water bottle with a filter. This is all." He hands me the pack and I sling it on my back without question. The knife is now safely back in my boot where I placed it while i was with my family. I nod at the man and look at the barrier.

This is it.

The guard nods at someone and a very small place in the barrier opens. I step forward a few steps and suddenly, I'm through.

I am now a Lost.
