Blue

"Sam Blue!" I gather my bag and books and walk over to the air train. "I'm here Miss." Miss Lovett looks at me over her evil librarian glasses.

"Why are you late?" I hold in an eye roll. I'm literally 30 seconds late because she didn't call my name. But I bite my tongue and reply sweetly, "I'm sorry Miss. I mustn't have heard you call my name." She huffs at my answer and continues calling out other "late" students.

I climb up the ladder into the air train and look around for an empty seat. I smile when I see a frantically waving arm that belongs to none other than my bestie, Eliana Blue.

"Girl, get your fine ass over here." She says when I'm close enough to hear her with her screaming. I laugh at her and sit down. "What are you staring at?" I ask following her gaze to Mc. Jerk-Face himself. Logan Blue. It really sucks that I not only have to go to the same school as him, and share a color, but also Eli's in love with him.

All of our last names are the same in each color, my family and I are all Blue's. So is Jerk-Face. "Really? You're still fawning after him?" She turns her icy glare on me and I chuckle out a nervous apology.

"Yes I'm still in love with Logan, and no, I'm not fawning over him." She says while waving her hands dramatically.

"If that's not fawning, then what is?" I retort smirking at her. She pokes me in the side and I fall to the floor of the air train just as it starts moving. Eli laughs at me and eventually, the other kids in our class join in.

"You okay?" I look up from dusting myself off and see Logan. "Yeah. Why?" I snap at him.

"Because I thought you hit your head but I guess you were just born stupid." This sends the kids I call classmates back into fits of laughter.

I get back in my seat and find Eli hiding behind her jacket's hood since her hair is a buzz cut. Girls either have long hair or short hair. Guys don't have a choice, they get medium hair, it can't hang past their earlobes. Sucks for them but I could care less cause I don't like long hair on guys.

"Ugh. I-he-they-argh!" I say to Eli. She giggles, "You okay there?" she asks me. I snort at her. "Use your words like a big girl Sammy." She teases me. I hit her upside the head. "Ouch! I was kidding!" Eli says rubbing her head.

The air train comes to a stop and we all shuffle out. The light is blinding when I first step out and instinctively reach up to cover my eyes. When I take my hand away my eyes adjust and I see our school. BATC, Blue Academy of The Colors. It, like all of the buildings in the Blue Circle, is floating a few feet above the water. When the tide rises and falls, so do the buildings due to water measurers around the coast. It keeps the damage to a minimum and honestly? It's freaking awesome.

After all of the students have "exited the designated vehicle", we start walking towards the building where we will be dorming for our last year at school before we decide our final Color where we will live out the rest of our lives. At least that's what we've been told since we were old enough to know what The Colors were. "God. I'm so ready to leave this place." I say to Eli. She glances at me worriedly when she thinks I'm not looking.

Turning to her and grabbing her arm I say, "Eli, you'll be fine. It's okay to not know where you want to go. You have the rest of this year to decide. And if you still have no idea, go with Grey. They are like everyone in one Color." she nods and continues walking fidgeting with her bag strap. "But, what if I go to Red with all of their headstrong people and warm houses in cold places and I hate it. Then what? I'm stuck there. Forever." I wrap her in a quick hug at the entrance of the school.

"Eli. If you hate it. If you absolutely cannot stand it. Then become a Lost." I whisper the last part to her because we aren't really supposed to talk to, or about the Lost. And we should never even consider becoming one for the fun of it. She gasps pulling away from me. I grin at her "Kidding!"I say laughing. She releases a relieved sigh and we continue into the giant white building.

Inside, the lobby is decorated with fishing nets, schools of fish models hanging from the ceiling, and lounge chairs set up strategically to give everyone quick and easy access to the dorm rooms and to the exit hole that leads to the water below. It's all very modern and cozy at the same time.

"Caleb! Please try to refrain from leaving the group to talk to other students." We all chuckle at Caleb who got caught trying to seduce a freshie. Caleb with his blonde hair, blue eyes, tanned skin, and playboy attitude was the "heartthrob" of our class. Well, him along with Logan, Ace, and Carter. Other than them, our class was pretty normal.

"Alright students, as most of you already know, to the right we have the history of the Colors, and to the left, the dorms. We are going to make a quick stop at the office to get your room assignments and keys."

"Wanna go check out the history exhibit?" Eli asks me. "Seriously?" I asked raising an eyebrow  "We've seen it like, a hundred times already. Plus, we're supposed to-ELI!" I jog after her stealing a quick glance at our class. Well, it's our last year and they won't notice we're gone...

"Okay, so why are we here again?" I ask following Eli to the main attraction, how the Colors were formed.

According to what we've all been taught, the Leaders saw that the people in the Old World were very quickly dying because of radiation and the fast heating of their world. Seeing this, the Leaders put together an organization called the Color Searchers. Their job was to bring and categorize people by their personality and their lifestyles. They created a huge dome to protect all of its limited citizens from the harsh Earth climates. Each group is separated into their Zone, and the overlapping area makes up where the Lost are.

People in Yellow are very positive. They live in modern houses with lots of windows and their normally floating in the air. It's supposed to be like their spirits are always high. The people in Red are hot headed and have amazing tempers that can go off at literally anything. They live in cold places, but their homes are nice and cozy, supposedly representing their cold exterior personalities and fiery temper. Green's are down to Earth people and they love what's left of nature in the Zones. They live in tree houses made of vines and other flora. This represents how they are "one" with nature. The Blue people who are the calm people, but like the ocean in our Zone, can have a raging temper if we're evoked for long enough. We live in houses made of wood that hovers over the water, the purpose, to make us feel like we're in tune with the ocean. And finally, there are the Greys. They're the people who just don't fit into one Color. They remain neutral during arguments and focus on their inner peace. They live in homes like the ones in the Old World.

On top of all of that, the characteristics of the people in the Zones have only gotten more prominent. Some people aren't born into their right Color, so when they turn 18 and finish their last year of education, they make their final decision about where they belong.

"Are you done?" I ask Eli bouncing on my toes uneasily. "We're so dead," I say groaning.

"Would you chill out?" she says to me. Walking over to the giant image of the Zones. Glancing back she notices that I'm running my sweaty palms against the latex of my blue body suit. Her shoulders drop and her features soften. "Alright let's get outta here." she grabs my arm and pulls us back into the lobby.

We run into the office and find Miss Lovett with her arms crossed and the office empty.

"Oh, nuggets." Eli and I say at the same time.
