"They're coming." I️ whip back around at the sound of her voice. So soft and frail, it makes me want to hold her, to comfort her and help her forget her sorrows.

"Miss I'll ask you again, please move on." Too late I️ realize the guard is ushering me away from the girl.

A scream rips through the quiet air of people headed back home or to their dorms. Struggling against the guard, I turn and see her being dragged away by rough looking men with ugly faces full of lust and wanting, their arms pulling at her as she grips the fence trying to hold on, I instinctively reach out to the girl.

"STOP! You have to help her!" I reach out again, this time with more passion and watch as a jet of water shoots at the man with red hair that's holding the girl. His head snaps back with the force of the blow and he is thrown away from her.

She struggles to regain her footing as the men look at me and stagger into the forest supporting the dazed red-headed man.

I stare at my hands, shocked that I just did that. I completely forget that I'm in a very public place being held by a very angry guard. I look up to the girl to see if she is harmed but all I see is a flash of mousy brown hair before she's gone.

Holy crap what did I just do?

"Miss, I'm sorry but you'll have to come with me."

*** *** ***

After a long and scary ride in a HoverGuard which was way nicer than the regular HoverCars - a fact a barely noticed because I was thinking about how I shot jets of water out of my hands - the woman leads me into the Court House which is connected to the Leaders House. We pass by closed doors that lead to courtrooms and my wrists start to itch where the cuffs that the guard put on me are resting.

I glance back at the two male guards behind me and give them a weak smile. I get nothing in return so I face forward and concentrate on not having a total panic attack.

What happened back there? "Right through here." I glance up at the women guard who just shakes her head sadly in a motherly way that I don't appreciate before walking off. If she's worried should I be too? Millions of questions race through my head as I step into the room.

There are windows on three sides letting in the warm afternoon light that does nothing to help the coldness in the room. The ceilings are tall and have arches going upwards to meet in the middle where a beautiful chandelier hangs. There are three chairs in a mini semi-circle facing rows of chairs which all surround a metal chair in the center of the room.

A hand is pressed into my lower back urging me forward but I can't move. My feet are glued to the floor and I refuse to move forward. Closing my eyes I imagine that my feet have grown roots into the ground and I'll never be able to move again, I'll just be standing here for the rest of my confusing life. I'll miss graduation, Eli getting married and having kids, and the wonderful life I should've had.

When I open my eyes again, finally ready to continue my advance towards the metal chair, I find I physically can't move. I look down and find that there are ROOTS growing out of my feet into the ground! "Move forward ma'am. Now."

"I-I can't" we both look down at my feet at the same time and he staggers back a bit. "Is there a problem over there?" The voice comes from one of the people in the chairs, catching my attention. A glance up reveals that it was the lady in the middle. She has dark skin and her hair is wrapped in a colorful scarf on top of her head.

"Uh- I can't move," I reply. The man to the left of her with a long nose, pale complexion, and wrinkled face sighs "And why ever not?" he asks. "I guess you could say I'm rooted to my place." I let out a little snicker even though nothing about this is very funny.

The wrinkled man stands up and looks at my feet. "By God! Two in one girl?" He sits back in his chair seemingly as baffled by the whole ordeal as I am. I take a deep breath and realize that the roots only grew because I thought about never moving again. With this realization in mind, I concentrate on wanting to move again. I open my eyes when I feel my feet tingling and see the roots retreating back into my feet. Creepy.

"Please take your seat." The scarf lady tells me and I gladly sit down. I'm drained of energy and ready to take a nap. "I assume that you know why you're here?" She asks me. I quickly debate weather or not to play dumb.

"No, I don't." I say simply. I've gotten good at lying over the years. You have to when you can shoot freaking water jets outta your hands.

"How long have you known about these abilities?" A woman seated to the right of the scarf lady asks. She is on the heavier side with tan skin, dark hair, and green eyes. Her hair is in a bun on top of her head. I know all of their names of course, long nose is Anthony Harold. The woman who asked the question is Elizabeth Zester, and scarf lady is Aliyah Elaine. They are the Leaders.

"Just today. I had no idea. What's happening to me?" I try to sound panicked and I look around frantically. "Are you sure that is your final answer?"

Crud. "Yes."

She frowns at me and continues, "We have brought you here because you have demonstrated your possession of not just one, but two lethal weapons. You're possession of these weapons is a direct violation of the Main Rules. For this violation of the Rules, you are to become Lost." At this point I stop listening. Lost? Me? Mom had always told me to be careful with my gift that being discovered meant serious consequences for us. So I controlled it. I hid the fact that I can control water. I was so good about it. How did I loose control over some girl? I couldn't be Lost, I had my whole beautiful life ahead of me.

"Are the conditions clear?" I tune back in too late to hear anything but her question. "Yes." I answer blankly. My body has gone numb from shock. I slipped up and now I'm a Breaker.
