"I can't believe we got away with that!" Eli practically screeches in my ear. I wince and push her, and her screeching, a few feet away from me. "Yeah, well it's very easy to lie to Miss Lovett about how 'we got sidetracked by the amazing history of the Colors," I say laughing.

We arrive at room 326. I open the door and our laughing stops. Our room is so awesome! All of the rooms are the same but all of the final year people get "special rooms" and that's exactly what they are. There are two twin cases which are like beds but they float above a square in the floor that is open to the water. When you lay in it, energy emits itself and holds you in place while the bottom opens letting you float above the sea breeze.

The rest of the room is a pale blue with a few windows facing the ocean. In the corner to the left of the door has a sofa, a lamp, and a small table. Other parts of the room is filled with various necessities like a closet, a bathroom, and a small television.

"I call the left side!" I say dropping my bags and diving into the bed on the left. Eli follows after me trying to push me off the bed. "No!! I want the left bed! Move your lazy ass!" I laugh and finally push her off the bed. She falls into the water below which sends me into another fit of laughter.

"Help me up!" I look down at Eli who is trending water below. He hair is matted to her face and she scowling at me. I get off the bed carful not to fall into the water myself which is honestly easy because the space is only as big as the bed and the bed is pretty low over the hole so I'm not even sure how she got down there.

Eli climbs up the rope ladder that I threw down to her. I hand her a towel and she drys off before walking over to her side of the room. "I hate you, ya know that?" I laugh at her remark and walk over hugging her from behind. She tries to wiggle out of my grasp but I won't let her. "Lemme go you piece of slimy rotten kelp!"

As soon as I'm about to say some awesome comeback, there's a knock at the door.

Releasing Eli, I️ open the door to find students pouring into the hallways from their dorm rooms. I️ look around confused. Who knocked and what the hell is going on?

"Sam!" Jessica, a girl in our class who I'm friendly with but not friends with, pushes through the crowd to reach me. Eli is already behind me looking at the crowd with a mix of wonder and confusion while drying her hair. Somehow she has changed into a pair of shorts and a black top.

"What's going on?" I️ ask Jessica as soon as she gets close enough to hear. "Come on, I'll tell you as we're walking." Eli closes the door behind her and as we walk Jessica tells us that some kid broke one of the Main Rules.

Anytime a Main Rule is broken, those in the surrounding area have to go watch the Breaker's sentencing to becoming Lost. It's a reminder to those around the Breakers that to break a rule is to become Lost and bring shame and smaller food rations to your family.

"Do you know what they did?" Eli's question is directed to Jessica and we wait for her answer. "No, but we should hurry so we get close enough to see."

After pushing through the small crowd that's gathered, we finally make it to a spot where we'll be able to see and hear pretty well.

The Breaker is on his knees with his head bowed down keeping me from seeing more than his traditional brown hair with sun streaks running through. "Kane Pier, sentenced to becoming Lost for breaking one of the Main Rules. Stealing food, supplies, and weapons." Mummers ripple through the crowd. Stealing is pretty bad and it's worse that he tried to steal food, supplies, and weapons.

The man holding Kane down lifts him to his feet and I️ finally get a look at his face. He is, in every sense a handsome man with a sharp jawline, high cheek bones that really show when he rolls his full lips into a scowl. His features are topped off with deep brown eyes.

He scans the crowd searching, searching for someone or something that he'll never see again. His eyes stop on mine and without thinking, I️ nod my head in respect. Kane's eyes widen just a fraction before moving on and glaring at me and anyone else who dares to meet the eyes of this wild beautiful Breaker.

Turning to Eli to ask if she's seen that I️ realize that she and Jessica have disappeared into the swirling crowd around me.

I️ turn in a slow circle scanning the crowd for a girl with a fuzzy buzz cut and her companion with long golden hair. Scanning does nothing so I️ decide to head back to our room and try to contact Eli.

As I'm walking back I️ catch a glimpse of the barrier surrounding the area of the Lost. On the other side is a girl who looks to be about 14. She's standing in a ring of the greenery, her clothes are distinctly from the Green Zone and her hair is wispy, circling her face in the slight sea breeze.

She's just standing there watching the people pass. I'm drawn to her and even though some part of me is screaming at me to turn around and forget about her, I️ walk towards the girl blindly, forgetting about the Rules for one possibly fatal moment.

"Miss! You can't go past this point. For your own safety of course." A women's voice pulls me out of my trance and I️'m startled to find myself at the line where the guards stand.

"Sorry, don't know what came over me." She nods and begin to turn away. Just as I'm dismissing my strange behavior and thinking of the best way to get to our dorm, the girl begins to speak.
