"You aren't funny by the way. Why would you leave a note like that? Especially in my books. Did you read what the book was even about? Like how could you even say that. This is a partnership only Phoenix." Compass exploded once they were behind closed doors.

"What are you even talking about? Where is this coming from?" He asked as he laid down on her bed.

Compass pulled out a ripped piece of paper from her book. It was neatly folded and he could tell she used it as a bookmark. She held the note in between her index and middle finger. He crossed his arms behind his head and just stared at her. She narrowed her eyes at him and balled the note up and threw it at his face.

"Don't answer my question with a question."

"I was trying to be funny, but clearly you are still moody as hell." He said standing up in order to tower over her.

His nerves strung from her balling up the note. She huffed and crossed her arms over her chest. It took a lot of self control not to do something to her. He flattened the note and placed it on her desk.

"No one said you had to act like a bitch you know."

"Why did you write it?"

"Because I wanted to, that's why. I wrote it because I wanted to write it because it would get your mind thinking." He said as he poked her head.

"What are you trying to say? Were you hitting on me?"

Compass continued to question him and what he meant by the note. Part of him wished he never wrote that note. Another part of him knows that she understands what the note meant, but wants to dig into it further just to spite him. He didn't want to have this conversation. He didn't want to risk her, she's worth too much for him. One thing was sure, he wasn't going to let her go.

"Just drop it! I have to go." He yelled then in a blink of an eye he was gone.

Compass stayed in place for a few moments then walked to her desk. She picked up the crumpled up torn piece of paper and open it. She read it for the fourth time trying to rethink what he said. She knew something was there but didn't want to start going down a path they were surely going to hit in.

'Princess,
I do not know whether or not I approve of you reading this book. Granted I find it sexy how this author makes her death character seem like. It makes me wonder what that mind of yours thinks of when you read. I might take a few pages from his book.
                                    Your Dark Partner,
                                            Death'

Compass spent the rest of the day with her grandmother. She knew something wrong had happened because even her grandmother felt a wave of pain and sadness. Compass remembers screaming then sitting on the floor crying. She didn't understand what was going on and her grandmother had an idea, but didn't push any questions. Grief overtook Compass while Mycha was sad but nothing out of the norm. Soon she realized that it was River passing away. Compass went up to her room and sat by the window waiting for Death to come get her in order to say goodbye to her friend, but he never came. Death broke his promise and left her alone.
