"What do you mean she told you to leave?!" Mycha loudly questioned.Compass covered her mouth as a sob broke through, she was still angry with Phoenix. She didn't like secrets, especially if they were kept from her or about her. Tears fell down her face and shivers racked her body. She held herself tighter as hushed whispers continued outside of her bedroom door. Eventually, everything faded into the darkness she knew all too well was waiting for her. The darkness that held all of her monsters.
Hypnos continued to wait for her to fall asleep. It took all of his self control not to go in her room and take her in his arms. All he wanted to do was watch her fall asleep right next to him like she used to, but he couldn't. He couldn't be near her. She cried herself to sleep again and he couldn't do anything. He couldn't kiss away her tears and make her laugh like before. Mycha had finally left once her anger simmered down. She was mad at Death and Compass. All she wanted was for the nightmares to leave her grand baby alone. Death clearly had other intentions and that was not allowed, not in her house.
Hypnos slowly and quietly opened the door of Compass' bedroom. Once he was inside, he noticed that it has been many years since he was inside and actually looked around. Everything was still arranged the same yet the items around the room were more mature than he remembered. He walked over to the side of her bed and his heart broke again. She was clutching her chest and curled into a ball with red puffy cheeks and tear stains down her face. Her nose was even red from all the sniffling she must have done. Her hair was everywhere but she was still beautiful to him. She always would. He walked over to her desk and opened her jewelry box. He looked inside and pulled out an owl shaped pendant that sat on a gold moon. As he walked back over to her he unclasped the silver chain and carefully placed it around her neck. She stirred slightly as he sat near her waist at the edge of the bed. He leaned over and kissed the edge of her hair line right above her right temple.
He hovered over her eyes and whispered "Sleep well my little moon. I'll make sure the darkness does not harm you."
As he turned to get up, he heard her say "Hypnos, don't leave. Please don't go Hypnos."
He froze thinking she had woken up but when he turned back to look at her, she was still sleeping. Her hand searching for him. Why? Why, was she searching for him, after all these years she still called for him in her sleep. He waved his hand over her head to put her to sleep with his magic. She would rest tonight without the worry of the block breaking.
"Goodnight my little moon." He whispered as he pushed back some of her hair.
He stood and left her with her dreams and memories she was allowed to remember. When Hypnos reached the kitchen, he was met by two young ladies. Mycha had her head hung low in her hands. The long locks of the two ladies were all to familiar to him. He knew they would come eventually, but why so soon? Athena and Artemis. The golden brunette locks of Athena were braided into a crown around her head and her light blue eyes were grey with worry. The fiery redhead next to her had two waist long braided tails and as soon as her emerald eyes landed on Hypnos, she crossed her arms.
"How is she? Is my grand baby okay?" Mycha asked before anyone else could open their mouths.
"She's sound asleep Mycha. You forget what I can do. The walls I built are holding for now, but they won't hold forever. She will start to remember and there's nothing I can do. We've suppressed too many memories." Hypnos informed them.
"I warned you this would happen. She's part goddess and part banshee. Her blood is pure, of the first banshee. Of her." Athena spoke with raw emotion.
"There's no way it can be her. It could be that she is haunted, but for it to be the same soul-" Artemis suggested but couldn't admit the full truth she wanted to say.
"Enough of this nonsense, she's not the same banshee and she is not sharing a soul. The soul she has, it is her own and she's plagued by nightmares that aren't hers." Hypnos said lowly to silence the two goddesses in front of him.
Hypnos knew that was why Death made that deal with her. Compass was a completely different person from the first banshee. She was not the reincarnated soul of her. Compass was her own person. He turned away from the kitchen to look at the stairs. He had to believe she wasn't who they thought her to be, she couldn't.
"We will be on our way Mycha. If anything else happens, call me right away." Hypnos spoke with a final say.
He was not going to have Athena and Artemis fight him on this.
