Feminine force is that inner strength, that power, that will to face
down any negative circumstances in life and defeat them
~Georgette Mosbacher
The ocean was beyond beautiful as we pulled up to the beach, the coastline glistening underneath the afternoon sun.
"All right, one of you losers need to help me get this crap out of the car," Emmalyn said. Matthias looked at me expectantly, and I shoved at him to follow Emmalyn to the trunk.
"You're more apt to carry heavy things; I'm not doing it!" I complained.
"But coming out here was your idea, so I'd suggest you carry some of the weight," he snarked back.
I ignored his comments and shaded my eyes as I looked over the crowded area. It was a beautifully warm day, and it seemed nobody wanted to pass the opportunity to get suntanned at the beach. Everyone except for me; I came for the swimming. "Hurry up!" I yelled over my shoulder as I started running out to the water. I heard groans behind me.
The water was freezing and just what I liked. Throwing my tank top over my head, I dove into the water, feeling the undulating motions of the waves crash against my body. As I broke the surface for air, I saw Emmalyn squeal as Matthias lifted her into the air, running towards the water with her over his shoulder. I laughed as he threw her screeching into the water.
"Your ass is in so much trouble!" I yelled out to him as Emmalyn came back up, gasping. Her long hair plastered over her face, making her look more like a sea creature than anything. Sputtering, she cursed out Matthias as she waded back to the sand, hands outstretched to grab him. I rolled my eyes as she began chasing him around the beach, deciding that I wanted to swim out farther by myself.
The rest of the day was relaxing, and I was glad that I could spend some quality time with Emmalyn and Matthias. We were eating lunch when my phone buzzed on the towel next to me, but before I could pick it up, Emmalyn snatched it out of my reach. She raised her eyebrows and asked, "Who's Hayden?"
My face fell. Crap.
"Give that to me!" I said quickly, sitting up to wrench it from her hands. She pulled away and got up, running around in a circle as I tried to follow her.
"Hey, hey!" Matthias shouted as we kicked sand into his food. "Stop it!"
"Give it back to me, Emmalyn!" I yelled. As she ran away from me, I backpedaled and ran into her, knocking her down on the ground. We both scrambled for the phone when Emmalyn shrieked for Matthias to help her. I suddenly felt two strong arms grab me and lift me high into the air. I kicked against his legs, trying to break free.
"Matthias, I'm going to kill you!" I cursed, but he only laughed at the fury in my voice.
"What's it say, Em?" he asked as she looked at the screen before coyly looking up at me.
"Oooh, Rin!"
"God, stop it!" I tried one last time.
"Looks like our Corin has a boyfriend!" Emmalyn exclaimed excitedly to Matthias. As I pounded on his arms, he finally released me. I ran up to Emmalyn and grabbed the phone out of her hands, panting.
"Why in the hell didn't you tell me you had a boyfriend? I'm your best friend, I should be the first to know!" she complained to me as I looked down at the text.
