Here's a thing about depression; you won't understand it until it happens to you. You won't know how powerful it is until anxiety attacks you at three in the morning.
People are great pretenders, but the ones who are depressed are actually the best in hiding their real feelings. They still smile despite of all the chaos running endlessly in their minds. They still laugh like nothing bothers them.
Some people often say that the ones with depression are the weakest, but no. They are actually the strongest. Despite of having no will to live; despite of how waking up every morning doesn't excite them anymore; despite of all their suicidal thoughts, they still manage to survive every single day of their lives. They still manage to look back at you and smile.
And if you think depression is just some kind of joke, think again. Depression is a serious case. Thousands of people die every year because of it. If you still think it's just a joke, are you even a human?
Depression is actually the most powerful opponent you'd ever encounter in your whole life. It can make you feel lifeless even with your eyes widely open. It can make you feel so little of yourself, so ashamed of what and who you are. Being depressed is like living in the dark; your eyes are both open but all you can see is darkness. It's like a trap. You want to get out, but everytime you try to run away from it, it always finds a way to lead you back in that "trap."
They will give you advices such as;
> Socialize so you'll be able to distract yourself.
> Always be optimistic.
> Overcome it.
> Ignore it.But it's always been easier said than done. Yes, it's true that when you're with your friends, you can forget all your destructive thoughts for a while. But depression attacks you at your weakest; when you are alone in your room. Depression will wake you up at dawn just to feel the sadness that the silence echoing in the four sided-room, brings. Depression can physically, emotionally, and mentally destroy you. Being depressed is like going in a battle without anything to protect yourself.
When you're depressed, it's hard to think of other positive things. It's difficult to keep that positive vibes around you. Because trust me, when you're depressed, the only thing that runs in your head is suicide. It's hard to see goodness, because depression has the ability to make you feel all the worst things you'd never want to experience. It can make you feel unwanted, unloved, misfit, in just one hour. It will be the most devastating hour of your life.
When you know someone who's depressed, don't tell them all the advices I've mentioned above. Instead, hug them. Comfort them, and help them get through that. Stay by their side until they feel better. Your presence is a big help. Depressed people won't say directly that they are depressed. They will only give you signs. And when they start showing those signs, make a move hurriedly.
If you, the one reading this right now, are depressed, I just want to tell you that everything will be okay. Suicide is not the solution. You are stronger than the agony that you're holding inside you. Release it. Breathe. Exhale all your destructive thoughts and inhale positivity. It may seem hard at first but eventually, you'll be okay. We'll be okay. Everything will get better in time. I got you. Keep going, okay? I'll hug you when I see you.
