Chapter Two

 two weeks later

Sadie

“Today, man!” Alina crows. “The contest results come in today!”

“Refresh” Alice says, doing just that. I glance over her shoulder at the computer screen. Nothing.

We're waiting for the contest results. We find out what happens today. Whether we win the tickets. And as Alina keeps reminding us, the boys touch down in New York today. We'll be 'breathing the same air'. And that's a direct quote.

“Refresh.”

Nothing.

“It's nearly too late” Alina says worriedly.

“Calm down” I tell her. “Emails take time.”

“They're instantaneous!” she shouts. We're sitting around in their room, watching the computer. Like our lives depend on it or something. To an outside observer, it probably looks hilarious. Three teenage girls huddled around a computer screaming every time Alice hits the 'refresh' button.

“Refresh.”

Nothing.

“Refresh.”

“OHMYGOD.”

There's an email sitting in Alice's inbox.

From the contest people.

The subject line says 'Congratulations!'

Nobody says a word. Alice clicks on the link, and the email opens up before us.

Congratulations, Alice Trent! You've won first place in our One Direction concert contest!

Your two tickets are attached.

Hope to see you there!

“First place” Alina says slowly. “Two tickets.”

“There are three of us” Alice says. “What the hell are we gonna do?”
