Chapter Four

 Sadie

“What in the holy crap just fricking happened?” Alina asks me, once we've gotten out of the venue.

“Good question” I reply. She grabs my arm, holds it up to her face, and reads Louis' number.

“Do you think it's really his number?” she asks.

“Why wouldn't it be?” I say. “And he seemed pretty desperate to me.”

“What do you think he wants?” Alina asks.

“I don't know, but if your mom figures out you snuck out to see One Direction, you're dead” I point out. “C'mon.” She sighs, but allows me to pull her to the street corner, where I hail a taxi.

“Are you gonna call him?” she asks me, once we've gotten one and we're on our way to her house.

“I don't know” I say, staring at my arm. “I just don't know.”

Alice

“Honey, I'm home!” Alina says, walking into my room. I jump up from the bed and practically attack her.

“How was it?” I ask. “Did you meet Liam? Who sang Harry's solo? Did Sadie have fun?”

“It was . . . weird” Alina says, scrunching her nose. I copy her, scrunching up my own.

“What do you mean?” I ask. She walks around me to sit on my bed, and pulls off one of her shoes.

“We met Louis” she says.

“Holy – no, you're joking” I say. “That's a really mean prank, Alina.”

“I'm not kidding” she says, tossing the shoe at the wall. That's normal Alina behavior. She's too lazy to line the shoes up neatly, so she just chucks them at the wall and hopes they make it. “Louis sang Harry's solo” she continues. “And then he choked, halfway through.”

“What do you mean, he choked?” I ask. Alina chucks her other shoe at the wall.

“I mean he stopped singing” she says. “And then Sadie stood up and started singing with him-”

“Sadie” I say. “Our Sadie? Shy, nerdy Sadie?”

“Yeah” Alina says. “She sang a line of Harry's solo. It was dead silent in the venue and Sadie stood up and sang the line. And then Louis joined her, and they finished the solo together.”

“That's insane” I say. “Continue?”
