'Life is full of challenges and setbacks. But after the confusion, anger and denial, you learn to adapt to the situation. '

The new scent of iodoform and subtle hand sanitiser welcomed him into the hospital room. Cloudy tubes racing across the floor of the room in all directions. Metal rods exhibiting their lustrous appearance as they harmonised with the only beam of light illuminating his path.

Layers of white fabric tracing the curvatures of the lifeless form. The silhouette resembling endless ranges of snowy mountains. A sudden vociferous woman screamed in agony as the sheets now meet the trodden ground. His throat strained from the continuous screams and unnecessary gulps.

A wooden casket, a fine white lining welded over the gaping corners. Ominous music, at first faint but grew louder and louder. Every step, slower than the first. Every step taken with caution. Wooden chards shattered on the tarnished stone. A deformed wight arose from their restful state with an instinctive yelp. His back crushed against the tepid wall.

A glimpse of light illuminating a fraction of the tarnished ground. He instinctively trailed the light's linear path. Transparent chards of glass dispersed over the circular band of gold, he slipped the watch back over his wrist hesitantly.

'Missed opportunities I never took have led to me to this very moment. Wasting my life constantly following others only wanting to conform into society. A new clock has started and I can only regret all of things I never did. '

With a deep breath, he pushed the curtains behind him. Steady breathes and a sigh of relief escaped his lips. He pressed his back against the wall. His body still tepid from the burning tension and now disintegrated to smithereens. Grains of grey sand moving fluidly within the confined space. Almost lifeless, he laid silently in the caved space. Waiting for someone to set him free from the ceramic jar.

Ok for those who didn't get what happened in this short story, Johnathan or the protagonist is walking through a haunted house, however he is actually in the process of cremation and each stage of the haunted house shows the inevitable nature of Death and reflects on all his missed opportunities in life.
