"Baby?" James came through the door bringing firewood to the fireplace.
Jessica did not answer his call. He threw the wood on the floor and took off the coat that was covered with snow. James walked over to the sofa and found Jessica crying, he immediately sat next to her and stroked her face.
"What happened, baby? why are you crying?" he caught her face making her look into his eyes.
Jessica was in shock and remained silent. The expression on Jessica's face left no doubt that something very bad had happened.
"Jessica, baby, I need you to talk to me." He gently wiped her tears. "What happened?"
Jessica in a swift motion wrapped her arms around James's neck, hugging him tightly. Jessica's pain was visible to James at that moment, she muffled the sounds of her crying around his neck. James put both hands on her back, making gentle movements, trying to comfort her.
"I'm here baby, I'm with you" he said in a whisper.
"Sophia ..." was the only word that came out of her mouth.
"Sophia is fine, Kate is taking care of her" James looked down and saw his cell phone lying on the floor.
"No ... Sophia" Jessica murmured, her words muffled by cry.
James picked up his cell phone and saw several missed calls from Kate. His heart pounded. He did not hesitate to call Kate immediately while still held Jessica in his arms.
"Kate, what happened to Sophia?" he asked distressed, hoping that nothing had happened to his daughter.
"James ... Sophia was kidnapped." Kate had a low voice, she felt guilty.
"How did this happen?" he shouted, tears forming in his eyes.
Kate burst into tears on the other end of the line, he could hear her sobbing. Jessica was frightened by James' reaction and despaired even more.
"Kate, please.I need to know how this happened" his voice was husky and shaky.
"I took her to have ice cream ... she asked to play in the park ... and ... I do not know how ... in a heartbeat she disappeared" Kate said through her tears.
"Did you see anyone taking her? Did you hear any screams? Saw someone suspicious? Did you call the police?" James's desperation was perceptible in his voice.
"James, I need you and Jessica to come back, I do not know what to do ... I already talked to the police ... I need you here" Kate sobbed.
"I know ... I know. I'm sorry to ask you all these questions now ... I can not believe what's going on." James was trying to control his feelings.
"And Jessica?" Kate asked worriedly.
"I'll take care of her ..." he looked at Jessica.
"Okay, I'll call you if there's any news."
"Right."
"James ... I'm sorry."
"It's not your fault, Kate. Now I need to hang up."
James hung up and encouraged Jessica to look at him.
"It's going to be all right, baby." He stroked her cheek.
"You promise?" she looked up at him with tears in her eyes.
"I promise" James kept himself strong. He needed to be strong for Jessica ... for Sophia.

The rest of the day was sad and silent. Jessica wanted to go home immediately, but with the snowstorm it was hard to get home. James never seen Jessica so devastated, it broke his heart. They were so happy, and suddenly every happiness went away.
Unfortunately the couple could only travel the next morning. It would be a long night. Jessica did not eat anything for the rest of the day, James did not leave her side for a minute. He was really worried about Jessica.
"Baby, you need to eat something" he insisted once more, bringing a spoon with soup to her mouth.
"I can't ..." She closed her eyes and a few tears streamed down her face.
"I know it's being difficult to deal with everything that's happening ... but I need you to be strong ... for our little girl" he said sweetly.
"I'm sorry, but I can not handle all of this." She stood up and walked into the bedroom. James decided to give Jessica some time. He also needed some space.

James entered the bathroom, turned on the shower, the water fell on his head, he kept his eyes closed. Quickly her clothes were soaked by the hot water. James wondered who could have abducted Sophia ... nothing ... he could not think of anyone who could do such a thing. The Anger took control of his body. James started pounding the bathroom wall hard while he screamed. He felt helpless.
"WHY?" he shouted still pounding the wall "YOU ARE NOT SATISFIED WITH HER MOTHER?"James's hands began to bleed, he continued anyway.
"I HATE YOU!" James screamed as tears rolled down his face.
Jessica heard James shouting and ran into the bathroom. She found him under the shower, the water still falling, blood being carried through the water to the drain.
"James!" she screamed.
He turned off the shower and turned to face Jessica.
"He was not satisfied to take only her hand" he said, and then smiled debauchedly "you're never satisfied, are you?" he looked up.
"James ... who are you talking to?" she approached slowly.
"With no one ... He no longer exists ... not for me" he sat on the bathroom floor with an empty stare.
"James, baby ... do not talk like this ... I know it's hard, but blaming God will not bring Sophia back" she sat beside him.
"I know ... it was not for you to see me that way. Sorry, Jess" he took her hand.
"No need to apologize ... in joy and in sorrow, remember?" she stared at him.
"How could I forget?" he looked at her, both with swollen eyes.
Jessica moved closer, touching his face "I'm here by your side ..." she whispered "... let's go through this together".
"I know ... that's why I love you" he said in a hoarse voice.
"I love you too" she put her head on his shoulder and they were both silent for a while.

"I'm sure I'd left some tape here" Jessica said as she tossed things out of a drawer.
"Jessica, I already told you that you do not have to do any bandages."
"Shut up" she said with a tone of authorit.
"All right".
"Found it" she shouted.
Jessica went to James and began cleaning the wounds in his hands. Jessica looked at her wounds and felt like a bad wife. She had never seen James so lost. Jessica felt bad that she had not stopped James from hurting himself.
James realized that Jessica was lost in thought and gently held her face. "Hey, it's going to be okay...together, remember?"
Jessica nodded. He pulled her into a hug and kissed the top of her head.

Jessica and James were lying on the bed. She wrapped him in a hug and so stayed for the rest of the night. Both lost in their own thoughts. Jessica was exhausted and fell asleep in James' arms.
"I promise I'll bring our daughter back ..." he whispered while he stroked her hair "... I promise."
James could not sleep, spent the whole night looking Jessica sleeping in his arms. He knew that what was to come would not be easy. He needed to take care of Jessica, and at the same time had to deal with his own feelings.
