"Mr.Parker, unfortunately, your wife lost the baby" the doctor's voice echoed in James's mind.

"No, no, you do not understand, this can not be happening." James said nervously.

"I'm sorry, but there's nothing we can do."

"No!" James shouted.

James opened his eyes in alarm and realized he was in the waiting room of the hospital. He was awakened with his cell phone vibrating in his pocket. He wiped the tears quickly and answered the cell phone.

"Hi Mom" his voice was husky.

"How's Jessica?" she asked.

"Still do not know" he said disappointedly.

"Son, why was Jessica bleeding?"

James realized from her tone that she already knew the answer to that question, she just did not believe it could be true.

"Mom ... Jessica is pregnant" he finally said.

"My God, James, why did not you tell me before?" Adele yelled at him.

"The decision to tell you or not was not just mine."

"So Jessica did not want me to know about my grandson or granddaughter. How long would she hide it from me?" Adele looked irritated.

"Mom ... me and Jessica were just waiting for the best time to tell you about the baby." James explained.

"Jessica never liked me, but I'm not going to let her keep that baby away from me."

"No one is trying to keep the baby away from you. And just to refresh your memory, you never liked Jessica" he raised his voice.

"Okay James, let's not have this conversation on the phone" she said with authority in her voice.

"I do not want to talk about it either. Now I'm worried about my wife."

"I know son. I'm sorry."

"No need to apologize."

"James, before I forget, I asked Rachel to take some clean clothes for you."

"Rachel? You're kidding me." James said angrily.

"James, she just wants to help."

"Okay, but send some clean clothes to Jessica as well."

"I'll send."

"Bye mom."

"Bye son."

James hung up and stared at the cell phone for a while. Rachel was his childhood friend. Adele always liked Rachel and wanted her to be James's girlfriend but he was already completely in love with Jessica. Whenever she had the chance, Adele used Rachel to make Jessica jealous. Rachel has always been in love with James, but she eventually settled for being just his friend.

"Mommy?" Sophia came down the stairs crying for Jessica.

"My angel, Grandma is here." Adele came over and took her in her lap.

"I want my mommy" she cried.

"My love, Jessica went out with your father to solve a little problem." Adele tried to calm her down.

"But I want my mommy." Sophia continued crying.

"Let me take care of you, little girl." Adele went upstairs and led Sophia into the bedroom.
