A New Warrior Cats: Clanborn: Lurking Shadows

Chapter 3

Dawnstar and her patrol found the rouges near WindClan. Dawnstar saw some cats standing guard around a small cave. Dawnstar heard the yowl of a cat in pain. Dawnstar and her patrol went up to the cats guarding the cave. A cat who looked like the leader came up to the patrol.

"What are you clan cats doing here! We are off your territory!" The cat hissed.

"You are thinking of WindClan. We are not WindClan." Dawnstar replied.

"Then which clan are you?" The cat narrowed his eyes.

"DawnClan." Dawnstar replied.

"I thought there was only four clans!" The cat hissed.

"DawnClan is a new clan. We don't have enough cats. We always hear how Windclan has to deal with rogues. Before anything bad happens that might lead to cats getting hurt we want to offer you a deal." Dawnstar soothed.

"What is this deal?" The cat sounded interested.

"All of you come and live with us and become apart of our clan and you hunt and fight for our clan. If you come then we will offer you protection from Windclan and Windclan won't bother you."

"We will come with you! By the way my name is Sun." The cat replied.

"My name is Dawnstar and this is Mistpaw and Snowclaw." Dawnstar pointed to each cat.

A cat slipped out of the small cave. "Sun, you have a daughter."

Sun trotted into the small cave. Dawnstar followed him into the small cave. You could see a small tortoiseshell she-cat laying in a nest curled up with a small kit. Sun was licking the tortoiseshell.

"When can you leave?"

Sun looked up. "Tomorrow."

Dawnstar nodded and went back out of the small cave. She went over to Snowclaw and Mistpaw.

"Mistpaw go back to DawnClan and tell them that we will come back tomorrow."

Mistpaw nodded and scampered away.

The next day came and the patrol was leaving. Ten cats were behind her including the small kit, whose name is a clan cats name, Spottedkit. Spottedkit was being carried by her father. Dawnstar and her patrol went back to DawnClan and they came into the clearing. Breezewind looked up and he was surprised. Breezewind trotted over to Dawnstar and her patrol.

"These cats are apart of DawnClan now."

Breezewind looked at Spottedkit. "The kit should go in the nursery with its mother."

Dawnstar nodded to Sun. Sun and his mate went into the nursery.

Dawnstar went into her den to sleep. When Dawnstar fell asleep a cat came into her dream.

"Dawn won't stay if there are shadows lurking! You need a cloud to stop the shadows." the cat said. The cat got engulfed by the shadows and Dawnstar woke up.

Dawnstar raced over to the apprentices den. "Graypaw! Graypaw!"

"What?" Graypaw asked, sleepily.

"I had a strange dream."

With that said Graypaw jerked awake and ran out of the apprentices den.

"Come into the forest we don't want to alert the clan."

Dawnstar nodded and they went out into the forest. They came to a small clearing and Dawnstar sat down with Graypaw. Graypaw waited for Dawnstar to say something, but Dawnstar was hesitant.

"What was this dream about?" Graypaw prompted.

"A cat came to me in a dream and told me 'Dawn won't stay if there are shadows lurking! You need a cloud to stop the shadows' and then the cat was engulfed by the shadows and I woke up." Graypaw looked thoughtful.

"I don't know what your dream means yet, but I'll tell you when I know." Dawnstar nodded.

"I'm proud of you! You know all of the herbs and you know what to do when an injury happens." Dawnstar licked Graypaw behind the ear. Dawnstar and Graypaw went back to camp. Breezewind just came outside. Breezewind looked up.

"Graypaw your den is nearly done." Graypaw nodded. Dawnstar went up to Breezewind.

"Do you think we should have a huge naming ceremony?" Breezewind nodded.

Dawnstar jumped up the tree. "Let all cats old enough to catch their own pray join here beneath the tree."

Cats flowed out of the dens and sat underneath the tree. The new cats were a little away from the clan cats.

Dawnstar flicked her tail. "The new cats please step up." They all stepped up and Dawnstar learned all of their names. "Do you want warrior names?" Everyone nodded. "Spirits of StarClan, you know every cat by name. I ask you now to take away the names from every cat you see before you, for it no longer stands for what each of them is. By my authority as Clan leader, and with the approval of our warrior ancestors, I give these cats new names. From this moment on, Sun will be known as Suntail. Norman will be known as Spikenose. June will be known as Cherryblossom. Aqua will be known as Riverheart. Sam will be known as Cavestorm. Leopard will be known as Leopardspot. Fog will be known as Nightfog. Ice will be known as Icefall. Fern will be known as Ferngaze. Spottedkit will stay as Spottedkit. That is all." Dawnstar jumped down from the tree. Breezewind came up to her and rubbed his cheek with hers.

"DawnClan is growing!" Suddenly a yowl split the air.

Graypaw raced to the nursery yowling, "The kits are coming!"
