A New Warrior Cats: Clanborn: Lurking Shadows

Chapter 6

Six moons have passed and it was Cloudkit's apprentice ceremony. A lot has happened. Skypaw, Mistpaw, Sparkpaw, and Whitepaw got their warrior names. Skypaw is now Skyleap. Mistpaw is now Mistpelt. Sparkpaw is now Sparkblaze. Whitepaw is now Whiteear. Graypaw also got her medicine cat name, Grayfeather. She was now a full medicine cat. Spottedkit is now Spottedpaw. Just then Dawnstar called all the cats together. Stormwing went out of the nursery and Cloudkit was close behind. Dawnstar called Cloudkit and Lightkit up.

"I've called you together for one of the most important moments in the life of a clan, Cloudkit and Lightkit have reached their sixth moon, and it's time for them to become apprentices. Cloudkit, from this day until you receive your warrior name, you will be called Cloudpaw. Starclan, I ask you guide this new apprentice. Set his paws on the path he must follow to become a warrior.
I will be mentor to Cloudpaw."

Cloudpaw touched noses with Dawnstar. The clan leader? Wow!

"Lightkit, from this day until you receive your warrior name, you will be called Lightpaw. Starclan, I ask you guide this new apprentice. Set her paws on the path she must follow to become a warrior.
Skyleap, come here!
Skyleap. You will be mentor to Lightpaw. I know that you just became a warrior two moons ago, but you are brave. I know you will pass this quality on to Lightpaw."

Lightpaw went up to Skyleap and they touched noses.

The meeting was over and all the cats in the clearing scattered. Dawnstar leaped down from the tree and went over to where Cloudpaw was.

"We are going to explore the territory today!" Dawnstar said. Cloudpaw was excited. He had never been outside of the camp.

"Skyleap, do you and Lightpaw want to come?" Dawnstar asked Skyleap.

Skyleap looked relieved. "Okay!" he agreed. Dawnstar trotted out of the camp and Skyleap followed close behind. Cloudpaw and Lightpaw stayed a little further behind.

"I can't believe that Dawnstar, our clan leader, is my mentor!" Cloudpaw whispered.

"I can't believe that Skyleap, her son, is my mentor! He was so fun when he played with us!" Lightpaw whispered back. Dawnstar and Skyleap were far ahead now, so Cloudpaw and Lightpaw raced to catch up. Dawnstar and Skyleap had stopped. Cloudpaw came up beside them with Lightpaw. All of a sudden a weird smell hit his nose.

"What is that smell?" Cloudpaw asked.

"That smell would be WindClan. Who can tell me about WindClan?" Dawnstar replied.
"I can! WindClan run on the moor and they eat rabbits. They are fast, but they lack strength." Cloudpaw said.

"WindClan cats are also well camouflaged and small, making them hard to detect!" Lightpaw adds.

"That is correct! Nice job, Cloudpaw and Lightpaw." Dawnstar purred. Cloudpaw puffed out his chest. He was praised by the clan leader!

"Where are we going next?" Lightpaw said with a bounce. Dawnstar looked at Skyleap.

"We are going to go to the best hunting places!" Skyleap replied. Cloudpaw was excited. He couldn't wait until he could hunt.

"Are you coming?" A voice called Cloudpaw out of his daydreaming. Lightpaw was up ahead calling him. Cloudpaw raced over to Lightpaw.

"I was daydreaming about being the best hunter!" Cloudpaw confessed.

"Well that is going to stay a dream because I will become the best hunter!" Lightpaw boasted.

Cloudpaw pounced on Lightpaw and they wrestled.

Suddenly they heard a yowl. "Stop play fighting! Your warriors not kits!" Cloudpaw leaped away from Lightpaw and looked up. Darkpelt was staring at them. Cloudpaw felt embarrassed. He felt like a kit being scolded. Some of it was true though. Lightpaw jumped up.

"We were just practicing our skills." Darkpelt huffed.

"Aren't you supposed to be with your mentors?" Darkpelt peered around the forest.

"Yes, they are!" Cloudpaw heard an angry meow and Dawnstar was coming towards them.
Then Dawnstar softened up. "They only just became apprentices though! This is their first day out of course they are going to play fight like kits. As they get older they wont do this." Darkpelt looked uncomfortable. "Oh okay." Darkpelt hurried away.

"Why did he run away?" Cloudpaw asked.

Amusement was in Dawnstar's eyes. "He was scared of being told off by his sister!" Dawnstar sighed and they continued on together to where Skyleap was waiting.
