Chapter 3

The next morning I woke up excited and slightly anxious. Today's the day we start the plan, I thought to myself.

After finishing my usual morning routine and eating breakfast, Dahlia was already pulling up to my house. I heard How To Be a Heartbreaker booming from her car and quickly bundled up before rushing out to meet her.

"Could you have the music up any louder?" I asked sarcastically as I put on my seatbelt.

"The louder the music, the more inspiration!" She had to practically scream over the song.

I turned down the music and turned to her. She slightly pouted but didn't say anything.

"Sheeeylaaaa," she said in a sing-song voice. I glanced at her. Once she realized she had my attention she started talking really fast. "Weneedtostarttheplanohmygoshwe'regoingtobringRyandown," she started blabbering about 'battle tactics' while I just stared at my crazed best friend. "Are you even listening to me?" She questioned.

"Were you even speaking English?" I asked. She gave me a small glare and sat up a little straighter as she drove.

"As I was explaining before, we start the plan today so that we can take Ryan down," she smiled wickedly. We came up to a stop light and she rubbed her hands together and cackled for extra effect.

"Lia, we're not just trying to get back at Ryan," I started to explain as she slowly stopped rubbing her hands. "We're trying to get back at the whole douchebag population."

She smiled, "I know, but I'll enjoy taking him down the most."

With that we made our way to school discussing everything from the school's lunch to American Horror Story.

As I walked through the doors to doom (also known as high school), I took a second to look around the hallway. Students were in small clusters and walking around randomly. Everyone was chattering as usual, but this time I heard the words 'another fight' and 'Roman'.

I automatically tensed and wondered if it was about my Roman. I decided to just brush it off, I could always ask him when I see him in class.

I went to my locker and got the books that I needed and headed off to first period.

When I walked into Chemistry, the first thing I noticed was a muscular boy sitting in the back of the class. People were taking fearful glances at him, and it probably had to do with the fresh bruises that were starting to darken on his face and his bloody lip. I wondered who would be crazy enough to mess with someone as big and scary as him.

I tried not to stare too long and made my way to a random seat in the middle of the room. My teacher, Mrs. Frey, got up from her desk and grabbed a stack of papers. She announced our test for today and started going over the usual rules: don't cheat, and if you do your test will be thrown away for an automatic 0 and a day of detention.

I zoned out until she starting passing out the tests. Before we began she cheerily added a 'good luck' as she sat down at her desk. There were a few quiet responses around the room, but they quickly died down as we began to work.

As I worked through the pages of the test, I kept glancing to the back corner to look at the battered guy. I tried to focus but I couldn't help myself from wondering how he'd gotten so beaten.
