mark lingered on pressing the contact button.

fullsun.

he wanted to text and ask how new zealand was. he wanted to ask how he was feeling. he wanted to confide in him about his first week of school without him.

he wanted to forget about him but he couldn't.

he scrolled down to see all his younger friends. he frowned at the sight.

user not found.

mark had lost all his high school friends. after the harsh breakup to the snide remarks to donghyuck, everyone took donghyuck's side.

it was always donghyuck.

mark and the rest never sat with each other at lunch. they never spoke a word to mark unless it was a project. it was like he never existed,

because he was just another star in an overcrowded universe.

that's why when they all saw each other in starbucks, they were a nervous wreck.

"hey guys," mark attempted to speak.

they all responded by looking down at their drinks like their lives depended on it.

"so, i'm in my first year of college. i think i'm doing pretty well so far, and i think i changed. so, if you want to be all buddies again, i'll be waiting."

jisung lifted his head to meet with mark's pleading eyes. his lips rose into a very thin smile and nodded.

mark grinned and waved goodbye before turning away to his new group of friends.

after mark left, they all took a deep breath.

"just imagine if renjun and donghyuck came. i'm so fucking happy this one time they ditched to have a date," jaemin whispered looking over at mark's table.

"are they even our friends anymore? we hardly even see them," jisung muttered under his breath.

"i know it's hard but donghyuck's in a rough phase right now. we all know it. let him live his life and realise his own mistakes. it won't be long now," jeno sighed.

"guys, i don't know if i can keep this up any longer. i really want mark hyung back again," chenle pouted.

"you have to, for donghyuck's sake," jeno scowled.

"mark! you are coming to johnny's party tonight right?" yeri asked.

yeri was mark's uprising best friend. they met at a cafe straight after donghyuck left him in his room. they clicked instantly like how donghyuck and mark did.

"i don't know. it is a friday," mark stuttered.

he mentally slapped himself. a friday? what an idiot. even homework would have been a better excuse.

"exactly. which is why you must be there. see you later, legend!" yeri ruffled his hair before skipping towards her friends.

he hated parties. they were filled with people intoxicated with drugs and alcohol. loud dance music pounding in his head and people making out with each other in every crevasse of the house.

he realised his mistake going to one when he was seventeen for taeyongie hyung's birthday party.

"you want to go to a party where we are underage and it's full of college students?" renjun raised his eyebrows.

"johnny is one of my closest hyungs. stop being such a baby, he invited a lot of his younger friends," donghyuck rolled his eyes.

he thought renjun was a bore sometimes. he never did anything extraordinary or extravagant.

"fine. hurry up at go get ready then," renjun sighed as he grabbed his jacket. he had a gut feeling that something wasn't going to go well.

mark decided to go for johnny.

he threw on a striped shirt with skinny jeans. his fashion was unlike last year wearing hoodies and graphic tees. mark became more mature and that also came with his attire. his hair wasn't blonde anymore but a light brunette.

unlike donghyuck, he changed for the better because he put all his trust in him.

"maybe we can meet again. just not now. when we are mature, when our toxic relationship fades away, when we find our true selves," donghyuck spoke clearly looking into mark's eyes.

he didn't want to admit that donghyuck was all he thought about in his spare time. he wondered if he was enjoying the breath taking scenery in new zealand.

"you came! i knew you wouldn't let johnny down," yeri squealed pulling mark in for a hug.

"sorry i'm late," mark panted as he quickly hugged back.

mark was used to all the physical contact with yeri now. they were the friends everyone wanted to be. they pushed each other to their limits and were very comfortable, but it was completely platonic. no strings attached, just best friends. mark thought to himself, if he wasn't gay, maybe he would have fallen for yeri instead.

but from afar, they just looked like a couple.

they excitedly entered into the house with booming loud music that already had donghyuck and renjun in it.
