the kind of attention that leads to
you not coming home one
night from a party
the kind of attention that
brings your keys to your hands
and puts them between
your fingers
i'm just so mad.
so mad at the world
and i don't know where to
direct it
although everyone says
"be free!"
"be comfortable in your body and
confident in your skin"
no one thinks about the
younger girls
who can't leave the house
in anything less than
a sweater or a t-shirt
because it'll attract
"the wrong kind of attention"
i didn't ask to have my body
be this way so please
don't make me feel like i'm
being punished for not being tiny,
and lacking curves
clothing is not consent
it is not an invitation to stare
it's not my way of getting attention
it's my way of being comfortable ,
being confident and
feeling strong
clothing does not equal consent.
