Chapter 20

(Newt's POV)

Minho was the last one to come through the gate. We ended up in a white room. It must have been some kind of laboratory or a base. It looked like there had been a fight in here. Things were lying on the floor, glass was broken and light blinked. Anna fell to the floor and dragged me with her. It was like she was floating between life and death.

"Anna, we're bloody safe. Come on!" I tried to shake her gentle, but it was difficult, when i, myself was shaking. What was left of the Gladers gathered around us.

"Anna!" I yelled, but she didn't react.

"Newt.." Thomas said and planted a hand on my shoulder, but i just shook it off.

(Annabelle's POV)

"Let go of me!" Two men were holding me in my arms. They dragged me towards a weird room. A red haired woman were leading them. She opened the door into the room. In the middle of the room, there were a chair with chains on it. The two men put me down on the chair, and held me down, while the red haired woman strapped the chains around my hands and feet.

"Stop!" I yelled and screamed.

"Help! Help me!" The red haired lady lifted up a syringe. She shaked it a little. One of the men folded my left sleeve. The lady cleaned my elbow bend with cotton wool. She prepared the syringe.

"NOOOO!" I screamed, but it was too late. She pressed the rest of the liquid out of the syringe and into my veins. It hurt like hell, like someone was burning me alive. I screamed and screamed until my voice got hoarse. I trembled of fear and tried to break free from the chains, but it didn't work and only made me weaker.

"Crank experiment started." The red haired woman said before she turned around and walked away.

The two men and the woman left the room and turned the light off. I screamed, i cried, i shook, i tried everything until i couldn't move a muscle. My body felt dead. Tears kept running down my cheeks, and they started to burn. I felt so many things. I was angry, i was tired, i was sad. They left me, all alone with all this pain. I felt dead. But not completely dead. The pain wouldn't stop spreading and i couldn't point at a place, where it didn't hurt as hell. I closed my eyes. I suddenly felt someone shaking me and calling my name.

"Anna!" I opened my eyes and gasped for air. Newt was holding me. I hugged him and hid my head in his chest. I cried, and got all the tears out. I knew what was wrong with me. I was an experiment. A crank experiment. I was one of them. No one said anything. Newt rubbed my hair gentle, and let me cry out. I felt safe with him.

(Newt's POV)

I held Anna close to me and didn't let go of her. She was sobbing silently and sat still.

We suddenly heard a door open from behind. The other boys turned around and looked at the door. A lot of uniformed people came into us. They grabbed a boy one after one, till it was my turn. Anna squeezed me and i did the same to her. They tried to take me away, but i wouldn't let go. Two men pulled Anna away, while two other men dragged me with the others.

"ANNA! NOO!" I yelled after Anna and tried to break free, but they just tightened their grip around my wrists. They held Anna back. They didn't drag her with us.

I saw everything in slow motion. Anna cried and sobbed. She couldn't break free because she was too weak. A woman came with a syringe and injected Anna with it.

The door between Anna and i closed and the last thing i heard from her was a painful and fatigued scream. I didn't fight back anymore. I let the two men drag me away. I now realised how much Anna meant to me. I got dragged towards a helicopter and lifted up in it, before it flew away with us. Away from the maze, away from the Grievers, away from all the dead bodies, but also away from Annabelle.

So this is the end. There's a little chance, that i will write a "The Crank Experiment 2", but idk. Nobody's actually reading my story, soo.. But i believe and hope, that the readers will come one day..
