"Hey there, Delilah
Don't you worry about the distance
I'm right there if you get lonely
Give this song another listen
Close your eyes
Listen to my voice, it's my disguise
I'm by your side" - Plain White T's

Recap

"My name," I snapped my focus back to him. "Is Tyler Freeman."

-🧠-

I don't really know what noise came out of my mouth, but it probably made me sound crazy. It was a mix between a laugh and a gasp. "I knew I recognized you two," I said loud enough for Derek to hear too. "You are the Freeman brothers." I laughed as they both looked a little shocked. Sarah looked shocked as well, and I was surprised she didn't fangirl over being in a room with two celebrities. The only reason she didn't go crazy is because she was getting tired. You could just tell, her face kind of drooped when she got tired. "We can talk more tomorrow, okay Sarah." I said to her as I gave her a kiss on he forehead. "Get some rest."

The walk towards the lobby was silent. The three of us didn't say a single word, and we didn't even look at each other. The automatic doors slid open and we silently walked outside. That's when I remembered my dad left, meaning I needed a ride home. As the boys kept on waking to their car, I sat down on the curb. I needed to text my dad for a ride. As I turned my phone on, a message popped up on my screen.

'Powering off'.

I sighed and muttered a few profanities under my breath. I stood up and walked back toward the hospital.

"Hey!"

I slowed my steps, not knowing if that voice was taking to me or not.

"The girl that was in the hospital room with Sarah, hey!"

I slowly turned around and saw Derek Freeman yelling at me. "Do you need something?"

"I think you need something, and I have it for you."

"Sorry, I'm not into girls but thanks anyways."

He laughed at my remark and gestured toward his car. "You need a ride home?"

I nodded and ran to him. He opened the car door for me and I got in the back. I blushed when Tyler and I made eye contact, but he looked away. "Where do you need to be, uh- "It's Daykota, or Day for short" "-Day, where do you need to go?"

I didn't want to go home, not yet. But I also didn't know if it would be weird to say he could take me anywhere.

"Take me wherever. I don't have a preference." He looked at me skeptically, but then finally smiled and I followed him to his car.

Huge. That's the only word I can describe it. Gigantic, maybe. But that's a little over the top.

Windows covered one section of the wall, and the amazing city view was shown. Everything was either a polished white, a shade of brown, or black. The apartment that the brothers shared was so modern and expensive that it made my house look bad. I didn't want to touch anything, afraid that it would break.

I stood in awe at the beautiful little apartment as the brothers both went inside. As the brothers both went upstairs to change, I closed the door and walked into the living room. The big window showcases the amazing cityscape view. The sun was going down and the lights inside were off, so the city lights were the only things illuminating the outside world and the apartment. I took my shoes off and I walked over to the window. I sat myself down right in front of the window and I looked outside. I watched the cars on the streets, as small as little ants crawling quickly. As the sky darkened completely, the city's bright lights gave everything an enchanting feeling.

I remembered all the times Sarah and I had talked and dreamed about moving to the big city one day. And sitting there by the window made me think of all those conversations between twelve year old Sarah and I.

-

"One day Sarah, I promise."

She smiled brightly at me. "We can buy a nice apartment in the big city and watch the beautiful sunsets through our windows!"

I laughed. "We won't be able to see the sunset in the city very well."

"If we have a wall that is all glass, and we are high up, we can."

She laughed and I did too. We dreamt of the day we could live together in a nice apartment.

"We could watch sunrises and sunsets,m together.  And you could snuggle with me when it thunders and we can have parties when it's sunny." Sarah's eyes held a dreamy look, and it made me happy to see her happy. "We can watch all our favorite movies together and we can sing all our songs. We can have dance parties while we bake cookies." She pauses and looks at me.

"Everything would be so easy, and we would be so happy Day. Oh how I wish we could always be together."

-

I was cut out of my thoughts when I heard footsteps behind me. I blinked my eyes, which were wet from a few tears. Sarah was injured. It was all my fault. I shouldn't have been so dumb to call her while she was driving, but she wouldn't have answered either.

"Day, are you alright?" Derek's voice came from behind me. I turned around slowly. "Yes, thank you." I glanced at the clock on the microwave. "It's getting late, I should go."

He shook his head and smiled. Tyler walked down the steps and sat on a couch close to us. "Stay, Daykota, Please. We have a spare room, I want to talk to you." I nodded and glanced at Tyler. Derek left the room to get some food and I sat down next to Tyler.

"I saw you crying."

Tyler's voice made me jump, and his words made me blush from embarrassment. "Oh," an awkward laugh came out of my mouth. Tyler's eyes held a caring emotion for a fraction of a second before they went back to blank. His pale green eyes hardly hold any emotion, and it normally looks like he's just empty inside.

"I'm sorry you had to see me like that. I normally don't cry in front of others." I blushed as I looked down at my hands.

He clenched his jaw. "You shouldn't apologize for hiding your emotions. You should be able to express your feelings. Never apologize. Ever." He gave me a genuine smile, and I smiled back. I had only known him for a short time, but I already liked him. In a friendly manner, of course.

Tyler then turned his whole body so it was facing me. I faced him. He took one of my hands into his, his thumb tracing light circles on it. "If you were thinking about your friend Sarah, she'll be okay."

"How can you be so sure?" My voice came out shaky as more tears threatened to spill out.

"I'm not. But even if she doesn't end up being okay, you have the good memories to keep you happy."
