doesn't call a hoe after hang ups. It's been a week since Genéve's emotional breakdown and she's gotten a lot better. Ethan had taken her out more places and they hung out at his house, occasionally bumping into Grayson which was always an awkward mess.
Today they had decided to go out to an ice cream shop, Thomas Sweet Ice cream. Genéve wanted to go in her car today so he agreed, tired of driving. They pulled up to the shop and got off, entering the store with a waft of cool air. As they walked in, they received a hardy welcome from one of the workers.
Genéve went to the windows first, examining the ice cream. When she felt that she was ready, she looked up at the girl in front of her and ordered, "Can I have a small vanilla cup?" She nodded and prepared it for her.
She then handed it to her over the glass and looked at Ethan for his order, "Yeah, I'll have a chocolate cone." She copied the same actions as before and handed it over for him.
They made their way to the cashier, Genéve already eating her ice cream. "That'll be $7.63," the boy at the register announced, eyeing Genéve.
She turned to Ethan and spoke to him, "I'm paying this time, don't worry about it." He nodded and accepted, not wanting to argue with her.
She reached in her bag and dug for the correct change. Finally, she pulled it out and handed it to the guy, bills ruffled and all. He took it and as he was putting it into the register he said, "I hope that's your step brother or something because you're mighty fine and I'd like to take you out on a date sometime."
She smiled and looked down at the floor, blushing. "I'd love to but," she slightly turned to pat Ethans chest twice, "this is my boyfriend."
He went wide eyed and immediately apologized, but she only smiled at him, dragging Ethan out of the shop to eat their ice cream outside.
"Genéve please don't worry about it."
"It's hard not to! I'm sorry I said that, I don't want you to think I'm moving on too fast," she spoke through the phone, her voice muffling every now and then.
"You're not, this is a very good pace, you're not pushing anything," Ethan never minded when Genéve referred to him as her boyfriend although it was only to get into situations or get out of them.
"Okay, but I need to go now."
"What? No! I still want to talk to you," he spoke quickly, almost stumbling on his words.
"I'm sorry Ethan," she spoke, her voice evidently hurt.
He only sighed in response, thinking as neither of them spoke. "It's fine, go have fun with Sophie," he smiled through the phone although he knew she couldn't see it.
"Thanks Ethan, bye".
"Bye," he muttered back.
