SIDE NOTE: Pictured is the dress I envisioned Sarah wearing!
*** Bit of a time jump here, say about a week forward***We'd decided to go out dancing on a Saturday night.
Well, I should say - Brendon decided he was taking me out dancing. As I sat in front of my vanity, applying the last coat of velvety red lip stain to my lips, a sigh escaped me. I was a horrible dancer - why did I agree to this? I thought. Shaking my head with a soft smile, I looked over my appearance in the mirror once more. I wore a long, flowy black dress that had a floral pattern on it, a simple black heel and a faux gold chain hung around my neck with a heart shaped locket attached to the end."Ya look gorgeous," My now roommate and best friend, Amy replied as she leaned against the door frame, gum snapping in between her teeth. "Brendon's going to eat you up."
My cheeks flush pink, "Thanks Ames." I reply. As if on cue, the doorbell rings in that beat of silence and my heart starts to flutter in my chest. I'd been waiting all week for this and the time was finally here.
"Go get 'em, tiger." Amy says, playfully smacking my butt as I slip past her towards the front door. I open it up and my breath gets caught in my throat. He looked absolutely gorgeous, I mean - he always did, but something about this man in a suit was beyond words.
"Sarah...," He starts, his eyes roaming all over my body. If it had been anyone else, I would have been upset. But this was Brendon we're talking about. "You look stunning. Beyond that, I...I'm sorta speechless." He says.
Our eyes meet then, my cheeks flush even hotter and I can feel a smile tug at my lips. "Thank you. You look very handsome," I reply. He holds his hand out for me to take, which I do and he gives it a gentle squeeze.
"This way, m'lady."
***
Brendon had insisted on keeping the night a surprise. Well, at least the location of where we were going anyway. We arrive at a very large building, with a long walkway that leads to the main doors, and a fountain smack dab in the center of the front lawn. On the inside, it resembled that of a hotel lobby, large doorways, people bustling about every which way, various music coming from somewhere off in the distance, waiters walking around with flutes of champagne and other various cocktails.
"Where are we?" I ask Brendon in awe, taking in the scenery around us.
"I told you I wanted to take you dancing," he says, as I follow him into one of the ballrooms. There's people sitting at tables, some dancing, some talking to what looks to be a DJ. Everyone's dressed fairly proper, and the ages of people here vary, young, old, adolescent, elderly. I spot a woman dressed in all white, the band of her wedding ring flashing against the lights. I realize where we are now.
"Oh my God." I look over at him. "Brendon, are we crashing a wedding?"
He quickly hushes me with a "Shh!" Pressing a finger to his lips. "When you say it like that, it sounds tacky."
"That's because it is tacky! And distasteful, not to mention disrespectful! An-"
"Sarah," He cuts me off. "We're not crashing a wedding. A buddy of mine got hitched today, and I told him I'd come to the reception. So, here we are. Just a little late."
My eyes soften then, relaxing from their previous wild state. "Well, why couldn't you just tell me that?" I ask.
"Well," Brendon starts, running a hand along his jaw. "I thought if I asked you out on a first official date to my friend's wedding would be a little weird. All things considered." He says sheepishly. "So, I just said we were going dancing. Which technically isn't a lie." He says, a smirk playing on his lips. Before he gives me a chance to speak, he takes my hand and whisks me out onto the dance floor.
Sara Bareilles' Gravity floats through the speakers, and everyone's now coupled up and holding someone close. Brendon's one hand is at my waist and the other holding my right hand, my left resting on his shoulder.
Something always brings me back to you
It never takes too longBrendon pulls me in close to him, our chest's barely touching. We sway gently from side to side, and I feel like I've been doing this my whole life. It felt so natural. "You're good at this," I comment as we continue to dance.
"Oh?" Brendon asks with a raised brow, skillfully spinning me out and away from him, then pulling me back in, my back now against his front and our arms somehow entangled in just the right way. "I never noticed," he whispers, his breath tickling my ear.
No matter what I say or do
I still feel you here, till the moment I'm goneWe continue on like this for quite some time. Swaying to the beat, Brendon perfectly executing a few more twirls, before bringing me back in close to him. At some point, I notice him humming along to the song and I feel like my heart could melt then and there. No matter what he was doing, he seemed angelic. My arms have wound their way around Brendon's neck, and his hands are planted firmly on my waist by the time the song transitions into it's last chorus.
But you're neither friend nor for tho
I can't seem to let you go
The one thing that I still knowBrendon spins me out one final time before twirling me back in. I'm flush against him for a moment, our eyes locking on one another's, before he draws one leg up to hook around his waist, while his other hand on the small of my back leads me into a dip.
Is that you're keeping me down
Ooohhh
You're keeping me down, yeah, yeah, yeah
You're onto me, you're onto me
And all overIt felt like it happened in slow motion. One moment I'm bent backwards in a dip, and the next, Brendon is pulling me back up towards him, our bodies closer than when we started. My arms are still locked around his neck, and I can suddenly feel how firmly his grip on my waist is, as his brown eyes bore into my blue. He moves one hand, agonizingly slowly, to cup the side of my face. I lean into his touch somewhat. "I was going to save this for the end of the night," he says, softly. "For the 'perfect' moment. But, I think its right here." He says. Brendon's hand is on the back of my neck now, as he guides our heads closer together, until our lips meet in a passionate kiss. A kiss that feels like he'd gone off to war and just come home to me. A kiss that led me to believe Brendon would be sticking around for quite sometime. A kiss that allowed me to forget all of the current bullshit, and Alex related drama in my life.
He kissed me like he couldn't breathe and I was his source of oxygen. It was real, and raw and passionate. It made me feel like we were the only two in the room, albeit the obvious. And it stirred up something inside of me that I thought had died long ago, with all of the destruction Alex caused. It scared me, this feeling, but I knew I was ready to welcome it with Brendon.
As we finally broke apart, and the music faded away, a smile as bright as day appeared on my lips. "Wow," I breathed, our eyes still locked.
"I like that. When you smile," he says, leading l us off the dance floor. "It suits you."
"Yeah," I say softly. "I think so too."
Something always brings me back to you
It never takes too longEEEEEEE! I know it's been a HOT MINUTE since I last posted. Please forgive me! I hope this chapter makes up for it. Don't worry, Sarah and Brendon are going to go on tons of dates and adventures and etc. after this. I wanted to make the first date something fluffy! I hope you enjoy this chapter and the rest of the book so far! Let me know if there's anything I can improve on, or ideas you'd like to see play out!
As always, much love,
- Trish❤️
